Well, if you ask me any form of internet chat is 'geeky' if you want to put it like that, chicks or no chicks.

The reputation of IRC probably hasn't been helped by the rise of Quakenet - a network of servers setup for people who played the game Quake(world) - into the biggest IRC network in the world which is now used by gamers in general. If you look around you can probably find the sort of network with channels that interest you.

Personally IRC is the only form of chat I've ever spent much time in. I like it because it feels less personal than standard IM chat, i.e. you can walk away and do something else for 5 mins without it feeling like you are abandoning people. It's a few years since I've even had ICQ/MSN installed...

I would recommend opening that really complicated page called "Google" and typing in the word "chat" - it may seem a bit complex, but hey! give it a go!
