As i've spent a lot on my parents and girlfriend already, i'm looking to get her parents a little something so just looking at champagne.

Anyone recommend some good decent cheap champagne that would keep them happy?

Cheers.

If you want cheap fizzy wine I'd steer clear of champagne, and plump for a bottle of Prosecco instead. With Champagne you pay a heavy markup for the name, and while good champagne is really good, cheap champagne is rarely impressive.

How much are you looking to spend?

Morrissons had a deal where Piper Heidsieck was only £12.49 a bottle. Thats damn cheap for a decent bottle.

Depends on your budget though, i had a lovely bottle called Tsarine which was only £20 in Booths

Waitrose had some prosecco on at half price (~£6) which was quite agreeable. Cant remember the name, but it had a blue and yellow label.

Look at their website?

I picked up 6 bottles of Taittinger for £14 a piece when Sainsbury's had a deal on last month. Not sure if the places will have these deals any more though.

Waitrose are selling Moet for £27 a bottle. I prefer Veuve Clicquot or Pol Roger myself. You ought to be able to pick up a bottle of either for £40 or a little less.

At that price, I'd either go for a Presecco or two bottles of decent (£9-£10) wine - one white, one red probably

I disagree, for £20 you can get a decent bottle of Champagne, particularly around this time where supermarkets are doing either Piper, Heidsieck & Co or Lanson for around £15. I think Morrissons were even doing Bollinger for £23 the other week which is a great price.

Wine can be very subjective to tastes whereas i find everyone can enjoy a glass of champagne and it feels that little more special

Is this for you to drink or to share with family/friends? You need to ask the question whether you/they will actually appreciate real champagne, which is comparatively expensive, or would enjoy a good sparkling wine, which will be far more reasonable. For Christmas this year, since it's just me, the wife and the kids, I have one bottle of DP 2002 Vintage as a treat (which is fabulous but a little out of your price range) then an embarrassing number of bottles of Hardy's Crest Sparkling Rose as a really good daily drinker (£7 from Waitrose). I actually get more enjoyment out of a good sparkling wine due to the balance of quality (they really are good these days) and price.
