Mate's Vent is running out tomorrow and he's looking for the cheapest package available with the best possible sound quality. 10 man or less would be fine as there's usually about 7-8 of us on.

Heard Mumble is better voice quality but never used it so i'd appreciate some advice on choosing the best service/host.

I have a Multiplay Mumble and it's top notch.

Paid £10 in September for 1 year, max 10 users since that's all we need.

Where as for Vent, it was £15 for 3 months iirc :o

Mate not being funny but Vent/Mumble/TS3 is about 25p a slot per month.

Seriously throw a couple of quid in each and you will get a voice server for 6 months you tight wad :p

Thank you very much iviv, just signed up so will test tomorrow. Looks too good to be true though, all the Mumble servers i've seen have peen paid ones.

I know, that's what I thought too. But I can't see where the catch is. Not sure if you have to give payment details when signing up, so they may suddenly start charging and sting you like that, but I'm pretty sure that's illegal.
Worst case, you use them for a few months before they start charging and you simply switch. Who knows. They could just be hoping that if you're going to be using a mumble server you'll also want game servers, so you'll go with them for those as well to keep everything in one place?

I suspect they are simply testing Mumble. Its very light server-side and costs nothing, so its not like they have anything to lose.

Hi All,

We've been thinking carefully about how to advance our services and we are now pleased to announce we are offering 12 slot Mumble voice servers completly free of charge.

This is based on a 3 month order at £0.00 cost, It will renew at this Free price of course unless we decide to discontinue the product. We have made space for 1500 mumble orders so get going! We will delete mumble from people abusing it of course, we only intend for one free server per person.

And what's more you don't even have to be an existing customer to order one! Just signup and it will be setup in a matter of a few minutes for you automatically.

Mumble is a new voice software that is open source, this means we only need to pay for the servers and bandwidth to host this for you. It makes it a much better price, and it is argued to be the best software for gaming voice coms out there today!

There is no better time to test seeing as you won't need to spend a penny to do so, and of course please feel free to let your friends know as you don't need to be an existing customer to order a Free Mumble server.

You can see our voice server page at
Free MUMBLE voice servers, teamspeak servers, voice servers in the UK

Of course we offer larger servers at crazy prices and we still offer TeamSpeak servers also via the same page.

So what are you waiting for? Upgrade your clan to the latest voice software for gaming today!

Thank you for Listening,

Warmest Regards,

Neil Bowen

Found this forum post. And there's a later post saying they expanded up to 50. As you say Mike, its not really that intensive, so they get free advertising for a low cost.

I signed up for the free mumble server last night and can confirm that you don't need to provide any personal details (no billing information / address etc). You just need a valid email address (hotmail is fine) and then it is up and running within minutes.

Obviously that doesn't mean to say they won't do anything sinister like track IP addresses, listen in on conversations or whatever but on the face of it, it is legit.

ukgame are a good company. I wouldn't worry about them. Who wants to listen in to people's conversations aqbout attacking the Ork's or getting a headshot anyway?

HangTime, do you know how you set up the SuperUser account and password? I thought I set it up correctly last night but it won't let me make any channels or anything. Looking on the UKGame forums now but can't seem to find anything on it :/

Thought it was meant to be the info I signed up with but it's not for some reason :(

I'd happily go straight to multiplay again.

You can get a 10 slot mumble for less than a tenner for 12 months at the moment.

Personally, I prefer ventrilo, and don't mind paying extra for it though. :)

When im on ventrilo even with 10ping there is a noticeable delay in the time that i say something to when they hear it, can make a big difference in fps games.

Mumble any better?

Finally sorted the Admin thing out, to anyone having problems getting Admin privileges do this:

Username = SuperUser

Password = the password you put in the 'Admin Password' field when signing up

I've got full right now to create channels/ban etc. etc. but don't know how to change my name from SuperUser lol, Dan, will be giving this a go later once me mates come on-line.
