I desperately need to consolidate about 3 smaller hard disks onto one single media drive to go in my modded Xbox console. I used to have a 400GB in there which did the job, until it started throwing up read errors and failed (it was second hand - won't do that again :-))

So basically, the time has come to purchase another one. I'd like one cheap but preferably with a standard warranty, and it has to be 500GB plus. I don't think I'm ready to spring for a TB, unless anyone can convince me to shell out close to £100... I notice OcUK have a pretty good deal on one at the mo...

They also have a great deal on this hard drive except that it's SATAII and my Xbox only takes IDE (unless I could somehow mod it...)

So basically, I'd like some advice on what the standout HDDs are at the moment, considering I'm not looking for premium performance as it's only going to store media in an old console. And also I'd like people's opinion on sizes; I'm thinking 500GB but I know fine well I could probably fill that if I tried hard enough - might be time to make the jump up to terabyte country?

you can get a plug in for about £50 which have a sata connector and do not require to you to keep opening up the console.
