Best Chinese restaurant in London?

I like hk diner. Food is great, interior is nothing to write home about. They will also cook all your food (except crispy duck as it's part of the seasoning in the roasting process) without MSG if you ask.

My vote would be Pearl Liang at Paddington. That and Royal China seem to come top in most polls. PL is expensive, but the food is absolutely gorgeous.

Eaten there loads of times (used to work nearby) but bar a few dishes I was never THAT impressed, but I know a lot of other people who rate it as highly as you do, I wonder if we just saw it as somewhere to go at lunchtime for a quick takeaway bite

I was quite impressed with this place, not on the main Chinatown strip but still in Chinatown. Not cheap, but also not mega expensive, and myself and fellow diners thought the food was decent. Nice atmosphere it's kind of buried in the middle you have to go over a small bridge and coy pond to get into the actual restaurant.

I wouldn't really look for the best Chinese in Chinatown to be honest.. I don't think many would. There is good cheap dim sum to be had.

Been to PL a few times. I enjoyed it, didn't get the runs and the others dining with me enjoyed it. But to be quite honest the food didn't blow me way really and the reviews it gets are astoundingly good compared to what you get... It was quite pricey the first time we went for dinner. After a quick bit of maths I realised I could eat in Yauatcha instead. So this is what I do when I want upmarket food...

Best Chinese food in chinatown - four seasons
Higher end Chinese food - royal china (not in Chinatown)

Best Chinese food within walking distance of Chinatown - yautcha (10 mins from Chinatown)
Best Chinese in London - take your pick from the hakkasans

Pretty much in price order lowest to highest. The top two will give you a more traditional Chinese restaurant experience. The bottom two are high end restaurants serving Chinese food with some modern twists so won't give you the 'Chinatown' experience.
)))good suggestions

Wong Kei is not the place to wine and dine...ok food, last 2 times had to share tables with oothers as they were busy. Ambience better than KFC though....just.

All down to your budget. Hakkasan is the place to impress, cocktail bar and wagu beef.

Royal china might be a happy compromise

Enjoy

Was going to end up in Four Seasons but after working the morning and then pampering her all day we were just too tired to travel into Central London for the evening :p

Ended up in Saathi for a curry on Chase Side in Enfield.

Wow! What a fantastic restaurant. Will recommend anyone to go for a curry there all day long!

Looking at reviews online it's suppossd to be the best one in Enfield and its walking distance from my house :)

Too late now - but Kai is really nice and in a pleasant locale for a night out - also for somehting a little more low-key but very good - try Shanghai in Brompton Road - top class.

We go to Lido restaurant in Chinatown about once a month. We've been to several others in Chinatown, but we don't get the same quality of service and food as at Lido.

Plus we get recommended dishes that aren't on the menu :)
