Best Command & Conquer game

I've just noticed there are a few C&C games going cheap on Steam:

Red Alert 3
Red Alert 3: Uprising
Tiberian Twilight
Kane's Wrath
Tiberium Wars

They're £3.74 each. Which would you recommend?

Not sure if it makes a difference but I've only played through the first C&C.

Red Alert 2 and only Red Alert 2! BTW I know it aint on the list.

Originals up until Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge. Do not include Tiberian Sun

Would be awesome if they re-released them all on Steam, with full multiplayer support

Is there a way to get RA2 working on dual/quad cores now? It used to suffer from a problem where the game speed was completely screwed on multi-core chips.

Anyone got the link for the free c&c games? My old like goes to a different site now.

just google them they are no longer on the official c and c site but they can be had elsewhere

tiberium sun and firestorm http://www.bigdownload.com/games/co...mand-and-conquer-tiberian-sun-free-full-game/
red aler soviet disc http://www.bigdownload.com/games/co...conquer-red-alert-soviet-disc-full-free-game/
red alert allied disc http://www.bigdownload.com/games/co...conquer-red-alert-allied-disc-full-free-game/

The above links are perfectly legal downloads. just a FYI :)

i don't think you will get red alert to work according to some but something i'm gonna try again now.You have to burn the ISO image tho but the tiberium sun can run direct from the folder install on windows 7 64bit but you have to run it in windows 95 compatibility mode. Also if you edit the config file you can boost the resolution to 1920x1080, the units are tiny and you can almost see the whole map on the first mission. Try it for the lols

Was renegade a good game in its heyday?

I did have a small go on it when I had first decade, I couldnt really appreciate it as the graphics were really dated and the server was practically empty.

C&C the original back in when i played it on the nintendo 64 was epic

Never was a red alert fan

Loved tiberian sun and tiberian sun firestorm the most.

I think i was one of very few that really enjoyed renegade, especially online, to be honest though it had soooooooo much possibility to be one of the best games ever but they failed at that.

I 100% agree, the last time I played on RA2 online, some dude had moddified plasma planes to inalate my base + army in literally seconds! Surely Steam would not condole such cheating.

what a load of ****

No its not really.

I like building bases. I like defending them with towers. I like turtling and making my base as impenetrable as possible, and at the same time I like to try and capture other bases that are just as well built and actually require strategy and thinking to overtake.

Thats pretty much what the RTS genre has always been since I first started playing them. Remove the base building and its not an RTS anymore. Its just a massively dumbed down POS.

Removing city building altogether from the Civilization series would be the same thing as what C+C 4 is. I can guarantee you that not a single fan of the series would like it.

I enjoyed Generals the most I think.

Had a lot of fun with Tib Sun & RA2 amongst my friends though.

Also base building is pure win. Making an alley of Obelisks of light backed up by artilley and SAM sites was so much fun. You could literally sit there all day perfecting your base design :D
