Best computer speakers

logitech Z series or Acoustic Energy are good as far as computer speakers. if you want better quality you will need Hi-Fi speakers.
 
Whats your budget?

Personally I'd recomend a second hand stereo amp and a pair of second hand bookshelf speakers, assuming you don't want surround. You could have a pretty decent setup for around a ton.
 
hi fi will be better for sure, but it requires a different set-up since you will need an amp.

depends on your needs and budget really
 
Check out the Genelec 8030a, they give a nice sound considering how small they are... Get the 8050A's if you have more room tho...

I'd recommend the Logitec z5500's, for stereo sound I'd go somewhere like Richer sounds as I'm sure they'll have a good deal on a amp and speakers combo.
 
if you don't wanna bother with buying an expensive amp and speakers, go for logitech to be honest they are very good and only the professionnal hear does hear any differences.

I have a Z Cinema system which connects thru USB and it works really well, it has that algorithm that tries to mimic surround sound(it is a 2.1) and the subwoofer is really nice ;)

If you wanna spend a bit more the Z5500 is really nice too and has all the normal interfaces.

Thats a bit misleading, they are good as far as a sub sat PC package goes but compared to a basic amp and bookshelf setup they are pretty poor especially with music and even my mum would hear the difference.
 
well personnaly I gotta say I have a quite good hear, I've been djing for 5 years and to honestly I can't find much difference between that package and an amp and speakers. Sorry!

Maybe the quality is not exactly as good but saying they are "pretty poor" compared to them is a lie
 
Take a look at the Mackie HR824 also, also look for some reviews, they are known to sound pretty good. :)

They'll sound a lot better than Logitechs which are cheap and nasty...

It's a sub sat package good though it maybe it will never have the integration and range of a decent bookshelf
 
I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Z5500 - not ideal for listening to music TBH, but I still think they are more than acceptable.

The feature that sold it for me was that it can also decode an optical input, which is spot on for a PS3.

yeah but for movies and games the logitech z5500 will blow away a basic amp and bookshelf setup. they got so much value for their price tag.

well the OP is asking for PC speakers. the gigaworks and logitech z5500 are your best bets.

Exactly, you probably have no hearing left ;)

Maybe you should try some better speakers and an amp, PA stuff doesn't sound great, just goes loud :)

Aegos are pretty good, the z5500 are also good if you want loud surround sound. But if you want quality then stick to a 2nd hand pair of bookshelf speakers and an amp to match.
 
Been following the discussion on this thread with interest, as I was just about to get some Logitech Z speakers for my HTPC set-up. Music would be one of the main things I'd use it for, so glad I stumbled on this.

I'm currently used to listening to music on an old LBT-V102 Sony compact stereo, so I don't have high standards, but I would like the best I can get for, and wouldn't want to downgrade my music quality.

What I do have is a budget of around £100 - which is why the Logitechs looked so tempting!

What would be the best bet for around the £100 the Logitechs cost? The Mackies and Genelecs are way, way too expensive in comparison. Any guides on good items to aim for new or 2nd-hand?
