Best Conroe Mobo?

I've just about had enough of my craptacular Gigabyte DQ6 motherboard. It won't work properly at stock settings (random blue screens and reboots) but seems to work perfectly overclocked - but only when it wants to be overclocked! Half the time it will decide it doesn't want to when you reboot and sets itself back to stock settings, which means the blue screens start again! I've tried different cpu, ram etc but it seems the mobo is to blame.

Can anyone recommend a motherboard I could replace it with, preferably one that won't make me want to kick the crap out of it!! Don't really need anything special (although Dolby Digital Live would be a bonus), just decent overclocking potential mainly. I'm running a E6300 in it at the mo if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Jon

Seconded

If you need something cheaper try a nforce 650i chipset board or a dfi 975x board.

Asus 650i is easy to use I find and though any motherboard can be like a house of cards at extreme clocks, it isnt particularly temperamental. Im at 3.2ghz on a e6400 with not much effort.

Is that you singing ? Not bad :)

hehe yeah it is, cheers. Looks like it's between the lanparty and the evga now as they are the same price at the mo, not sure which one is best though!

I would not recommend those 680 boards if you want something solid and reliable. And if you don't plan to go SLI, then it's a waste really. I'd opt for a 975X board, perhaps the Bad Axe 2 which I have myself and is excellent. Just check out these threads;

Alternatively, as you have an E6300, a 965 board would maybe be a better route if you will be OC'ing. Gigabyte DS3 would be a great choice.

I'll take a look at the bad axe, thanks for that. After the problems i've had with my dq6 though, i'm never buying another Gigabyte Motherboard!!

What about the Asus P5N-E SLi? If you go for a 975x board you might struggle to get the fsb necessary for a decent overclock. I'd stick to 965p or 650i chipsets if I were you.

Got the EVGA yesterday and swapped it in, seems to have got rid of all of my probs nicely! Need to do a clean install but it's still been running smoothly. now to get this crappy DQ6 RMA'd!

The 680i boards are awesome. i have had no issue with my BFG. nVidia had reconised the issue and all manufacturers released a BIOS update. They are now rock solid.

expensive though :(
