Hi all,

Building a system and have decided to go for the COre 2 duo chip instead of AM2.

What board is the best out there at the moment would you say? Seems to me the ASUS boards are plagued with problems at the moment :(

Any advice would be great. Spending 120 or so

Ive just gone for a DS4 with the Geil 6400 ram, i have gone for an E6600 but nearly went for an allendale.
I am reliably informed that cross fire will work too, which is what i intend.

The 965p gigabyte boards represent a good `Conroe ready, out of the box solution` and are a newer chipset than 975 with an impressive memory controler, good for overclocking.

I would recommend you go for that ram with the DS3 or DS4 it has been tested with these boards and deemed spot on.
There is a special proceedure invoving the manual setting of the memory voltages in the bios the first time you boot, but once set to +3 above default you should be good to go.

Apparently. :)

Except the DS4/DS4 or any 965 chipset doesnt support crossfire! Just because it has two PCI-E slots doesnt mean it can :p

I would probably say the Asus P5W DH Deluxe or MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition

My Asus board is fine!

If you don't mind the cost, the ASUS P5WG2-WS Pro - it's a workstation board so is in a different league from their other boards.

Of course, the PCI-X slots might not be the most useful but remember that they are backwards compatible with PCI. Also, you could wait for the better board which is the P5W64-WS Pro which instead of the 2 PCI-X slots, has 2 more 16X length PCI-express slots (though they work only at 8x and 4x when used with Xfire.

This is what i thought, but i was informed today that so long as both the lanes support x8 and it'll work on the DS4.

I can feel an ammendment to my order looming.

My asus board is great except for the sound and i dont know why. Very rarely it starts to kind of distort whatever sound is playing. Although a driver update could probably solve it. Other than that its perfect. Plently of voltage options for overclocking its been very stable for me :D

Nice.
I take it your using the onbourd sound as oppose to an add in. Or is it something to do with the Dolby Master Studio technology?
