Best CPU cooler for 2600?

As per title really.

Would like something low profile i.e. isn't massive that takes up a **** ton of space :p But don't really want the AIO units due to possible leak issues as well as not performing as good as air coolers on the whole.

Silence is key and obviously that cools well.

Price wise, nothing above £80/90

Thanks.

Thanks.

Will need to decide on case first to make sure whatever I choose can accommodate that.

It's shame that the AIO units still have that risk of leaking and pump noise as they do look so much better than these massive heatsink coolers!

^^

Exactly!

Even if there is only a 1% chance of it happening, I am not risking it, even if corsair etc. were willing to compensate for all the equipment, it is more the faff having to deal with all of that......

Need to know what case, motherboard and RAM you have to determine maximum size of cooler that will fit .. becuase with cooling size generally does matter. ;)

Sorry, but a big air cooler will be quieter and cooler than any CLC can as long as air cooler is getting same temperature of air to it. At idle there is no pump or water flow noise, and at full speed the CLC pump and fans make way more noise than a good air cooler's fans do.

Currently I have an antec p100 but I'm also looking for a new case:

MB - MSI b450 tomahawk
RAM - Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB

I mean in a case that has not it's airflow setup to match components. Cases out of the box rarely have decent airflow, so we need add fans/change the stock fans to get case to flow the air components need.

What cases are you considering? Maybe you haven't you got that far yet.

Your case has 170mm CPU clearance so will fit almost all coolers, even TRUE Spirit 140 Power would probably fit at 171.2mm (most case specs are conservative).

MSI B450 Tomahawk has plenty of room from CPU toward PCie sockets for even widest coolers, but is only about 50mm center CPU to near side of RAM sockets .. meaning if center CPU to front of fan is more than 50mm it will not fit behind your 43mm tall RAM. At 43mm it is 38mm above top of CPU so top of 140mm fan would be 178mm .. 8mm too tall to fit 140mm fan over your RAM. RAM height is a real problem these days with so much RAM having such tall heat spreaders that are worthless anyway. Testing has shown RAM often runs cooler with heat spreaders removed.

If you could measure center CPU to RAM it would help. Could measure from far side of CPU to RAM and subract half of IHS width. ;) If it is 53.2mm TRUE Spirit 140 Power will fit. At about half a 'C' note with a 360w TDP rating it is the best air cooler at very reasonable price. For it prices to up to about £90.

Thanks for the detailed post!

Not sure on the case yet tbh, quite a hard choice to make :p Would like something smaller than my antec p100 though so that might rule out a fair few air coolers......

I'm going for the P600s. lots of rad space (can take the bigger black ice units), lots of HDD space, great airflow. great space in the rear for cable management. going to get the white one I think.

Nice! Let me know how it is once you have your build setup in it.

Ok, I have only just got around to getting a case, went with the fractal meshify C so now need to decide on the cooler for the 2600.

Recommendations in here still much the same?

Any good new small air coolers?

Generally I just prefer smaller ones, not overly keen on the big bulky ones, even though they are better.

Would love an AIO for the sleek minimal look but don't want the pump noise, more likely to fail etc. caveats that comes with them.

I don't mind the size of the be quiet one you linked there.

How do the noctua ones compare?

IF you're using a Meshify C you've room for a bulkier HSF, why are you sticking to small/low profile?

Here's a couple of ideas:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £84.94 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Low profile included as you seem to be interested in getting one, yes it does have a fan if you look properly (easily missed as it's mounded on the underside).

The initial versions of the Alpenfohn listed had some issues with the soldering I believe, but that was a year or two ago and any current versions should be fine.

The Shadow Rock 3 is pretty much the price/performance king right now, displacing the popular Mugen 5.

Just read a few reviews for that be quiet one, damn it looks great value!

And ordered.

Thanks.

Thanks for the advice doyll.

I believe I have 2 akassa apache 120mm PWM fans, presume they would be better than the default fractal ones?

Cpu cooler arrived today so will probably get it installed sometime this week, have got everything moved to the new case:

Will also get fans sorted when installing the new cooler.

What do you guys reckon would be best for silence/noise overall then?

- have the 2 stock fractal fans
- got 2 akassa apache 120mm fans (in fact, think I might have another lying around so maybe 3...)

So 3 fan layout:

- 2 at the front and 1 at the back
- 1 at the front and 1 at the back with 1 on top
- just the 1 fan at the back and 1 fan at the front

And then which fans should go where?

Thanks for the in depth post doyll once again. I went with the 2 akassa apache at the front and 1 fractal at the back.

Finished installing the cooler there, not sure if I did a bad job installing it with the paste but temps are, this includes 30 minutes of a game (usually around 55-58 in game):

With stock cooler, cpu temp with a game would have been about 72-75.

Decent drop but not sure if it could have been better, still, better none the less!

Great so your getting 33c idle and around 50-55c in game?

Just asking as I'm interested in the cooler myself
Yup about that, doesn't look to go above 60 so far.

I'll need to try more demanding games at some point though and report back as that was only with borderlands 3.

Played some ark last night and max temp was 62.3, although was hovering around 60 most of the time in game.

Ryzen 2600 with stock clocks.

I'm using thermal grizzly paste too, which makes quite a difference even if I did a terrible job of applying it....

Just the default, so 4 pin PWM and let the fans automatically adjust depending on temps, the back fractal fan is just 3 pin though so always run at 850 or so RPM.

Thermal grizzly kryonaut is the one I have.

Cool, I see you have an MSI board, the fan control is a pain but does work

I see your exhaust fan runs higher than the intakes at idle assuming that's after a cold boot, I would set a curve for it if you can using DC so it limits it a bit when the system is idle if you wanted to keep dust levels as low as possible but it's not a big deal as the speed is still low

Intakes and CPU look good though which is weird because on mine which is also MSI I can't use the default curves because it sets the fans too high at idle and makes too much noise
Thanks, will look into that, have got DC installed but only ever used it for the RGB lighting :p

I didn't notice if you said, but I assume you got be quiet! Shadow Rock 3? I believe it gives lower CPU temps than Alpoenfohn Black Ridge even though it has 1 less 6mm heatpipe becaue tower coolers' design keep heated exhaust airflow moving back and out of case .. down flow coolers dump heated exhasut everywhere making it extremely hard to keep it from mixing and warming the cool airflow into cooler .. and every degree warmer air is into cooler is same degrees hotter CPU will be at same fan speed and CPU load.
Yup be quiet shadow rock 3.

I think I followed most of what you said there :p

GPU is running a bit cooler as well now since the akassa apache fan replaced the front fractal one.
