I currently have a 5800x3d in meshlicious itx form factor with 4090 FE.

I now have the opportunity to go back to my full tower pc with dual 3x180 monster rads.

My question is is it worth while atm will I gain much more fps ?

As afterburner shows my 4090 sits around 3ghz but it's very rarely shows it hitting 95%+ usage, I knew this when buying that any cpu would bottleneck it but with 70003ds out and 13000k series is there much to be gained.

I tend to play games like cyberpunk, RDR2, starfeild and the likes.

Any one moved from a 5800x3d and found it worth while?

7950X3D if money no object, or 7800X3D.
Edit: the 13900/13700 are good options too but i'm thinking of future upgradeability and power draw/temps.

the 4090 with 5800X3D vs 7800X3D hardware unboxed results

the 13900k and 7950X3D would be a bit better again but i would not bother myself

18% average 1080p ( cyberpunk 9% )

12% average 1440p ( cyberpunk 1% )

4% average 4K ( cyberpunk 0% )

I play at 4k so I think I'll leave it thanks for the input, was just getting a upgrade itch as I've been on 5900x then 5800x3d since they launched.

If you have a 5800x2d in there, I'd just wait for the next line of AMD and intel chips - it's not like that CPU is holding you back from playable frames

5800X3D can't get close to achieving the maximum performance in games like Cyberpunk, it just doesn't have enough cores.

I've tested many CPU's with my 4090 in Cyberpunk. 13900K, 7900 and 7950X3D are all significantly smoother, especially in the CPU demanding areas of the game (Toms Diner, @LtMatt 's favourite place to eat). Note this is at 4k, with RT on. RT adds significant CPU overhead at 4K.

IMO, if you're spending £1500-£1800 on a 4090, spending the extra £80 for a Ryzen 7900 over a 5800X3D is 100% worth it (using OCUK prices as of today)

You'll get many people who've never used a 4090 or AM5/z690/z790 platform comment that the 5800X3D is the best CPU for a 4090, but try and ignore these and look for real world feed back from people who own the actual hardware.

I have both the 5800X3D and 7800X3D and in the most CPU demanding areas of CP2077 the zen4 part is much faster. Zen3 just struggles a bit in places. A number of more recent titles will also see a boost. That being said it's not really worth the upgrade cost at 2160p unless you are playing very specific titles at high refresh rates or a big PS3 fan. :p

When you say struggles what does the FPS drop too ? Does it stutter ? This with 4090 at 4K ?

It's fun comparing both. I found areas of Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Hogwarts, that are much faster on Zen4X3D with a 4090. Makes no sense buying a £1500-1800 GPU and gimping it with an outdated CPU IMO.

The next AM5 AGESA (.8: zero-day fix) will likely have a very noticeable hit to performance. It could put the 7x CPUs behind the 5x in some things. I would wait and see how it goes before buying into AM5. Hopefully AMD can reduce the impact but its still going to hurt.
