I voted for Silva, but surely Scholes deserves a mention at least (as its not based just on this last season, and he is without doubt creative/attacking midfield even if he stays deeper than he used to)

Scholes hasn't been a creative/attacking midfielder since 2003 and even then he was only ever given 2 years in a free role, before that I would class him as box to box

And yet you've put Gerrard in.

Baz will come along and deny this but Gerrard has played a lot of football over the past 5 years (and beyond) playing directly behind the striker and before that a stint on the wing. He's played far more football not in centre midfield than he has

EDIT: Your reply to my point about Scholes is moot anyway because like I say Scholes hasn't been a creative attacking player in almost 10 years, should I have included Barry in the LB poll because he used to play LB for Villa?

I'm fairly certain Gerrard hasn't played in that kind of role since Torres left, and so if it's not his current position, I'm just confused as to why you're including him (when you state yourself that it's the reason you left Scholes out).

Did you clarify at some point as to what timeframe you're talking about with these polls? Because it's all seemed a bit vague to me.

Over the last 5 year Gerrard's played more as a CM than any where else. He's played almost exclusively as a CM for the past two seasons and even in Benitez's last season, he played at least half that season as a CM too.

It was only an 18 month period (from midway through the 07/08 season) that he played predominantly off the front, other than that he's mainly played CM. Even the 05/06 season where people talk about him playing on the right, he played more games in the middle than on the right.

To be fair although I don't agree with all the classifications (for example I thought Lampard and Gerrard should have been in the same pot) I don't envy Tom84 having to split up the midfielders, teams play different formations and some players fill different positions without those teams.

Basically you just have to vote based on the options available, the only complication really is the "Other" option in cases where the player you want to vote for is actually being catered for in a different poll.

As an aside I've been surprised quite a few times in these polls, for example I wouldn't have expected Silva to have nearly 5x the votes of second place.
