Id welcome advice on whether this is a good balance/build.

current 3GHz Prescott and 7800gs agp cant hack it any more.

gamer looking for
1. 3Ghz OC on CPU
2. future support for 1600Mhz FSB 45nm cpus next year
3. future support Pcie 2.0/ purchase 9800Gtx in c. June
4. quiet build.
5. will be running Vista 32 DX 10.
6. 5.1 Sound
7. budget only limited by good value.

tempted by/considered options
a)smaller/cheaper psu
b)p35..but wanted 1600Mhz fsb and pci2.0 voltages
c)£204 GTX, games may eventually need more memory but not a high resolution gamer (1024x768) + will upgrade to 9800gtx soon after release.
d) faster memory, in case penryn fsbs increase above 400Mhz
e) dual core. but 3ghz is enough and 4x3 is better than 2x3.
f) X-FI Music OEM..but not convinced the're worth it.
g) assumed motherboard comes with 2 x sata cables.
h) 'lapping' cpu and T120

Are you seriously intending to game at 1024X768 on that setup ? Pretty reasonable 19" / 20" widescreens can be had for a little over £100 pounds & will vastly improve the experience for you - in application use, let alone games.
I'd ditch the expensive X38 mobo for an £80ish P35 chipset board. Drop the PSU to a 520W corasir & perhaps get a cheaper (but still decent) case to make up the shortfall. I'm convinced this will give you a much better computing experience.
As for the 1600FSB, ask yourself if it's really going to matter at all. The Penryns (not even released yet apart from the extreme) only use 1333, so you're spending lots of money for compatibility with not the next round of CPUs but the ones after that. Take into account that you're buying a high end CPU (the Q6600) which will last ages & I don't think 1600FSB support is worth it.
