Best defrag software?

Simple question... Whats the best HDD defrag software around? preferably free software...

O&O Defrag Professional

It's the first 3rd party program which I have noticed a difference.

Whatever you do avoid Diskeeper 10.

Last week tried this out and it ruined my HD had to rebuilt and reinstall Vista from scratch as it corrupted loads of system files and I could not get back into the desktop on reboot the screen stayed black no matter what and nothing would let me in so spent hours rebuilding my main PC all because Diskeeper10 did something to it.

The Vista Defrag utility is also decent....

Also have a look at the Defrag/HDD Monitoring Software section...

Well Vista's defrag is decent, but not great. I know theres better software for it that gives better HDD performance.

And cheers people, will try out O&O Defrag Professional. Giving Perfectdisk a go at the moment...

JKDefrag+GUI. Does the best in tests and contains some handy tools, oh and free.

Another vote for O&O. I've been using it since the NT4 days and it's the software for which I've paid for most upgrades, after PS Elephants.

As mentioned. For free software:-

Try Defraggler (from the makers of CCleaner). Also I like Auslogics Disk Defrag (think it's v1.4 at the moment).

For the best if buying:-

O&O Defrag.

Yeap another vote from me.

Agree also, JKDefrag is an amazing bit of software, it won the best of the free defraggers on The Great Defrag Shootout, no fancy screens or menus, simple fast and does it's job very well.
I've used many, many defraggers, but none, imho, are as good as JKDefrag.
