I havn't defragged my PC since i got it ages ago - just ran the analyze tool on the built in one and it's almost solid red and I noticed the hdd seems to be hanging waiting for the hdd's (raid 0) a lot recently so i figured its time to fix it.

Been trying O&O defrag on trial but it fails to install the service and its driving my insane not working and the lack of support.

So question, what would you recommend to defrag a PC? Trial software will be fine just need to fix the hanging.

Diskkeeper is good imo, but also needs a service to work, and perhaps try running 20 loops of windows defrag?

Need one myself too! Ever since dropping in a X2 4200 Windows Defrag doesn't want ot work! Keeps coming up as "Not responding"!

Perfect disk or O&O

diskeeper isnt that bad but IMO Perfect disk is better
and O&O gives you more defrag strategies

and for people not wanting extra services what i do is have the set to manual/disabled then enabling them when i defrag

not like you need to do it often

Are any decent defrag apps free?

Still using Windows defrag, yes I know it's just a cut-down version of Diskeeper, but it is handy.

Someone in the Windows forum recommended Auslogics Disk Defrag. I'm not too hot on my defrag apps, but its free, quick, and seems to do the job.

Yeah I use Auslogic Disk Defrag too. Seems to work fine for me in Vista, pretty basic but does the job fine it seems.
