best defragmenter

as in the title, which is the most thorough and quick HDD defragmenter?

There are one or two but frankly the one built into windows is perfectly adequate, the fifference in performance is so small as be non existant. Ive tried one or two and I do not see the point in them.

I know thats not much help soz.

I've been using Diskeeper lately. Seems to do the job well enough. Can't say I've noticed much difference between Windows' built in one, and the others I've used.

VoptXP was fairly decent also.

PerfectDisk seems pretty effective - using it at the moment on my notebook (the trial version), and it seems to do a good job. It can arrange all important system/boot files so they're at the start of the disk too, allowing for quicker boot times.

I use Diskeeper on my PC, but I might change that. Doesn't seem to actually do very much.

Stay away from perfect disc

I tried it last week my boot times went right up hard drive was working away for ages loading windows

I had to use the windows defrag to get everything running ok again

My boot times seemed to increase slightly at first. After giving it a few days to "settle in", I did another offline defrag, then a full defrag, and it seems fine again now.

Can't say I'm noticing that this machine is much/any faster since using PerfectDisk, but then, it's a notebook with 512MB of RAM, so it's never going to be particularly quick at disk operations anyway.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned O&O defrag; it isn't very popular on here but it its amazing.

Nah, I also noticed that many seem to dislike O&O for some strange reason, yet I have tried every defragger there is I recon and none even come close to O&O.

Never had any issues as such with any of the others however, they dont do it as quickly or as properly as O&O seems to
