I want your ideas & views. on what you think is the best of each category no real reason just thought its a interesting debate.

Here some Categorised Areas: [feel free to add more]
For Me it seems between these two companies Blizzard & Valve.

Best Marketing - Blizzard Trailers & marketing is just so good at drawing you in... Specially there cinematic. Never seen a Diablo Game Saw it a while back & instantly said that's my game

Best Quality Polish Going to go with Blizzard here. WoW & Starcraft 2 was so good & felt great specially SC2 at release.

Best Download System Valve - STEAM IS PURE WIN...

innovate ideas Valve - need I say more than Half-life - TF2 - & Free to play trade system [trade is not always great but made it become free with micro-transactions]

Account Integration Blizzard does this nice across all games. Battle.net

Gameplay Stuck between both to be honest both make fantastic games that just make you want to play them.

Length Both Companies make games with good length.

Story Story/Lore is great from both companies.

Optimization Valve has it here Source Engine need i say more?

Dedication Both Love PC platform & give it love :D

Give us your ideas Add more areas if you wish. Giving reasons would be nice.

Overall Valve & Blizzard for me.

I won't go into indie devs, as frankly I'd be here all night. I'll stick to normal developers for this thread, and too many of them have been spoiled by publishers imo.

I've actually got to agree completely Blizzard and Valve are probably two of the best "AAA" developers in my book. They're the only one's I can think of that take a no compromise attitude to development. "When's the game coming out? Whenever the **** it's ready".

Otherwise, if you start looking beyond the AAA devs, Double Fine are easily my favorite. I've always admired Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert's work, and despite their lackluster sales, they've never made a game that I didn't enjoy tremendously.

There was a time when Bioware would've occupied many of those slots for me, but now... bwahahaha! :p

I don't suppose you can really go wrong with Valve and Blizzard though. Though rather oddly I haven't played a Valve game since the original Half Life and as for Blizzard titles... well only WoW and Diablo 2. Yet, I might venture Egosoft for the dedication catagory. Their support for the X series of games is hugely impressive.

Edit: Relic Entertainment are another outfit that have rarely put a foot wrong in my view.

Bioware used to easily be one of my favourites however they really have lost it. Valve is at the top in my opinion i've never actually played a Blizzard game but i certainly hold them in high regard next week i will pop my blizzard cherry with Diablo 3 :D .

....so Blizzard used to be one of your favourite game devs but then they lost it....yet you've never actually played a Blizzard game? How exactly does that work

I don't really think there can be a 'best' developer in the gaming industry due to its diverse nature, so it would be hard to compare them to each other on some levels.

My favourite developer would have to be Besthesda though.

Do Sega count? Like EA they have incorporated lots of small development teams but unlike EA they have worked out how to produce games to a fairly strict timetable and yet make them fun and enjoyable to play. They will never win anything for innovation, but I have put vast amounts of time into the Total War and Football Manager series' as they know how to make a successful product then adapt and modernise it.

Would have to agree that Valve are one of the best.

Would probably say that CD Projekt goes down as one of my favourites though. Not only are the Witcher games brilliant, but they give you free updates and have large dislike towards DRM.

Another vote for CD Project here. Amazing chaps, with great views regarding PC gaming.

Best Quality Polish Going to go with Blizzard here. WoW & Starcraft 2 was so good & felt great specially SC2 at release.

Surely Best Polish would be CD Project? right? (boom boom :p)

What we need, is a multi millionaire who has a passion for MMO's or used to, someone like ant and dec but filthy rich, one of them use to play Myth Of Soma, I forget who. Get them to invest in some quality dev's and do a player run job like how wmdproject (project cars works)

I agree that blizzard are a pretty good company right now, but most of the best games i ever played, when i was younger anyway, was nintendo

Peter Molyneux, Bullfrog. Romero/Carmack, ID Software. Even LucasArts, Digital Image Design (DiD). They were there at the start of pc gaming and were innovating and in some cases defining entire genres.
