My camera keeps corrupting images so I need a new one.

Will be used mostly for family photos and the like, slr or compact doesn't bother me. My current one has 4x optical zoom so I would like at least that. Preferably I want one that takes good quality videos as well, not noisy qvga @ 15fps like my current one. :p

You could get a bridge camera for that money, Fuji S5700 would be a good choice. 10x optical zoom and decent video. You can use it on auto mode or fully manual or inbetween, it's a very good camera for beginners and you could learn a lot from it if you wanted to get into photography.

While you're not bothered on format, would you simply prefer one to easily be able to pocket? The Samsung NV8 or the Canon equilavent at the price will both be good choices.

I've now got the Fuji S5700 for £105, not had much have a chance to play with it yet. Looks good so far though on semi-manual modes, auto mode is ISO 800 which is way too high.
