Some lovely neighbour has decided it is fun to open my front gate and let his dog **** all over my front door. I started using a padlock on the gate but I cant have it on all the time (postman, expected visits, etc).

Today the really lovely person took the chance when the padlock was off for half an hour and got his canine friend to leave us another lovely present.

Short of taking a day off work (he only does it when its just my wife or no one at home) and waiting behind the door with a baseball bat, what dog reppelant could I use so that the dog just doesn't want to come in? A nice sausage with poison crossed my mind but the poor animal is not responsible for his piece of **** owner.

(Yes, the Police was called, waste of time, apart from not dealing with trifles, they also ignore urine and told me to get a lawyer!)

Set up a camera, record him doing it.

+1 for recording it.

People will get funny if you start messing with their dogs. I would try minimal approach first.

Deal with the owner, not on.

As for the dog, since the owner is bringing him/her right to your door there's not an awful lot you can do to stop it pooping. When you gotta go, you gotta go. However dogs don't like strong smells, I hear ammonia is good for stopping dogs going places you don't want them to go. And if the dog ain't there it can't poop.

If that makes sense.

The smell of ammonia is not pleasant, I certainly wouldn't want that near my front door. Personally, I'd pick up the dogs poo in a bag and then leave it in the offending neighbours garden.

Not pure ammonia sillies. Dogs noses are much more sensitive than ours so you can water it down so you can't smell it but the dog still doesn't like it.

p.s. I kinda like the smell of it, is that weird?

Thanks for replies.

Its not poo, its urine, its a quick thing, a ****-and-run so to speak, but it is a person leading the dog because he opens the gate, as in we heard the latch being opened (person has to do that). The first time my wife heard the latch opening and didnt rush out because she just someone was going to knock or maybe it was the postman.

Ammonia sounds a bit strong to put on my porch. I have a 4 year old.

I actually ordered a camera and wireless recorder when it first happened last week. Picking it up today, the problem is even with the footage I have little faith in what the Police will do about it unless I involve a lawyer, and if I involve a lawyer basically this is going to cost me money I can ill afford and the joke will be on me.

The other way the Police will get involved is if there is a breach of the peace, basically if theres a confrontation, but then the words of Chief Wiggum spring to mind 'the law is powerless to protect you, but it can punish you'.
