Building a new i7 rig on the Asus E6X58D-E and planning to have 64GB Crucial C300 SSD as OS drive with 2 x 1TB F3's in software RAID 0 for software/storage etc and 2 x 1TB drives in external esata enclosure in RAID 1 as backup.

Is this the best use of the drives?

I have all the drives and the external box is enroute. I decided on the external box as it has its own power so in my mind is slightly more detached from the main rig.

What would be the best approach to backing up, is there any software you would recommend other than what Win7 can do.

acronis drive image for backup (does incremental and differential) - Anyone have any reservations with regards to it ?

Why RAID1 on the external backup ? You now have 3 copies of your data :/

Doesn't your raid 0 drive amount to 2Tb and the raid 1 backup only 1Tb? Might run out of space on the backups, that's all I can think of, otherwise sounds like a reliable system.

acronis has saved me days of work

I managed to image my 1 disk os and put I onto a raid setup raid 0 so I didn't have to install everything. Twice
