Hi I have a couple of drives that sea tools on win 10 passes on all tests but truenas comes up with smart errors, any recommendations on how to test them or what to trust win 10 or truenas smart tests ?
Thanks
Depends what the errors are actually telling you. Most drives log smart data , and sometimes its interpretation on the systems part as to whether or not it considers the smart data to be in error.
As a complete random illustration, let’s say a drive has 40000hrs of run time logged in the smart data. Ie it’s been running for years.
Windows might not care about that, a long as it’s reading and writing data, windows will be happy.
Freenas might look at that and think that drive has been running for ages and wouldn’t make for a good long term storage drive, it’s past its best, and so may throw a message about it complaining.
2 different interpretations of the same data.
So I’d say you’d need to find out more about what the actual error is that freenas is saying.
