Earthbound.
The one issue with DRM such as this is what Rroff mentions, what happens if it hits a legit buyer? What do you do then? He goes onto a forum asking for help with the problem, everyone just goes 'lol, pirate' and he doesn't get any help with a game he bought. The same issue with all DRM systems, it needs to be invisible to people who bought the game legally.
Still, this is pretty awesome![]()

Best DRM is no DRM.
And no, I'm not a pirate but I'm sick of buying legit games with crappy DRM systems that remind me of their presence on every launch.
IIRC the iron smelters produced pigs instead of iron?
Personally I'm of the opinion that the best way to counter piracy these days is to release the core game for free and keep it relatively constantly updated which payable extra content i.e. like with trackmania where everyone could use the same basic car for free but for a small fee you could unlock the ability to use custom cars. By including compelling extra content people are much more likely to pay the £2-3 to unlock bits at a time and end up spending the same amount or even more over a period of time, it keeps people interested and coming back even non-paying customers which makes them more likely to end up spending money and also makes it a lot harder to pirate as they can't just include one "hack" and be done.
This doesn't work so well tho for a linear single player game unfortunatly tho could be used to make single player games more "living" and dynamic.
That would annoy the hell out of me (if done with a fps etc).
"congratulations, you've finished level 9, now pay us £9.99 for the next 10 levels"
Game breaking ones are always the best because it also helps the devs track people using it on the forums when the come in to ask about it lol
