I have been using Nero to encode my films from AVI to DVD. I have been told that a number of different programs are available.

What is the best? and I want to be able to put fancy menu's and music on the front.

ConvertXtoDVD is what you need for perfect DVD encoding but for fancy menu's to go with it, then it is not so good.

Its not over the top with a fancy UI like Nero cause its really for perfect DVD encoding which is the main prioriy.

Anyhow I use Pinnacle Studio 10 for professional DVD creation with menu and sound effects.

Got to agree with Scream. Use you fav app for all the editing and the fancy bits. But for pure DVD encoding ConvertXtoDVD is about as good as it gets. Always spot on every time, and very very fast.

SVCD2DVD gets my vote. As far as I know its now 100% standalone if required. But IMHO if used in conjunction with CCE it cannot be easily beaten

DVD Flick - this is very good, uses multi cores when encoding, and is free.

The best I have used is:

TMPGEnc 3/4 Xpress->AVI->MPEG2

TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6/2/3, MPEG2->DVD Video files (vobs) + menus + burning onto blank DVD media.

another vote for ConvertXtoDVD here. never had a bad conversion yet

EDIT : my postcount says im evil mwahahahhahaa

Yes you must be evil! (looks at the Tottenham Hotspur sig). I'm a Leeds fab for my sins. Hope Gus serves you well *spits* :)

Winavi has the most simplified interfaces but I am no longer using this as I heard it is not vista compatible.

A combination of Canopus ProCoder and DVD-lab PRO.

Canopus are now owned by Green Valley.

Works fine for me in Vista, but it does disable Aero while it runs.

I think CCE is regarded as the 'best' encoder. TMPG is good as well. ConvertXtoDVD is the best solution if you want quality and ease of use. You can do menus in CX2DVD, just just not uber fancy ones.

For Me It Would Be A Combination Of Procoder And Ulead DVD Workshop,Fancy Menu's With Audio, But Workshop Will Not Do A 16.9 Widescreen Menu, So Will Be Moving To Adobe Encore 2,The New One CS3 Is A Bit High In Price ,You Can Also Used Sony Vegas 7 And Dvd Architect 4

been looking for EXACTLY the same thing tonight - after trying lots, i've come to the conclusion that DVD SANTA is brilliant - does everything, you just add the AVI and it does the business, then burns it for you!

Convertx2dvd is very slow though when compared to winavi. It use four cores in xp and absolutely trounces dvdx... when it comes to conversion. I don't know about dvd flick though?

OP: You can't go wrong with DVD Santa - really easy and quick to use.

Aye CCE with a 5 pass VBR encode is damned hard to beat. Best I have ever seen. Takes n age to do tho. As I side note in framesetting options I use the Lanczos resize.

Has anyone tested any video encoding clusters, using either dvd::rip or openmosix?

Are there any Windows softwares which can be configured to act in a cluster form over a netwrok between various pcs?
