I'm looking to set up a little e-commerce site and wanting a few recommendations. So far I've read Magento, OpenCart and Wordpress + various plugins is a good solution.

Anyone had any experience of these? Preferably looking for one PHP/MySQL based with good community support and a Sage Pay plugin. :)

Hmm I'm starting to lean towards OpenCart! I've read it's pretty good and from what it says on the website it integrates with SagePay where as others sting you for a plugin.

Not had experience with the others mentioned, but Magento can be rewarding if you want to invest the time in optimizing and customizing - plenty of extensions as well.

Another vote for OpenCart!

OpenCart is built around a very fast core, gives you full control over the template and has a very active developer community.

Magento by comparison -in my experience -felt slow and cumbersome underneath its awkward framework. Another gripe becomes evident in the Magento templates -for all of the [arguably superlative] jQuery and Flash pomp that brandis their landing pages, the product pages (cart, et al) never really innovate on the original design -and perhaps this is because the framework is an obstacle rather than a facility for designers to work with.

To recap, OpenCart gives you fully developed themes, extensions, SEO, payment gateways and an active community. Finally, installation is an absolute breeze and runs quickly on basic hosting. OpenCart is currently version 1.4.9.x, which I wholeheartedly recommend using.

All the best

Hi all, first post here.:)
I've built a site using Prestashop in the past, found it easy to setup and customize.
I am liking the look of opencart though think I'll take a closer look

i think opencart is great though yet to get in into the real world and deal with any issues.

we currently have it on our site for testing and will upgrade in a few months to 1.5 if it's out and stable by then www.naturalselection.biz is using 1.494 iirc and there a huge difference to 1.5 some great features and a much cleaner design

I have developed 4 websites in OpenCart now at work and it's a beautiful eCommerce tool to use, very customizable.
