To balance with the worst thread, what's your best dinning experience?

Mine was last night, at Midsummer House in Cambridge, took the other half out for her birthday.

Everything was perfect, down to the finest detail, the service, staff, wine, food, atmosphere, even the bread was incredible.

Had the classic 5 course menu, and every dish was divine, the smoked duck egg in particular.

Can see why they have two Michelin stars!

They seem to like the number 2, the bill was made up of 2's and a 0.

Worth every penny tho.

It could be one of a couple:

Wishart's @ Cameron House
It was a few years ago now but it stands out as being an excellent meal with just really good quality, well cooked food.

If I'm being honest though it's probably one of the restaurants in either Majorca or Croatia that would be the best eating out experience. Really good seafood by the water on a warm night is just brilliant.

Ummm I'd say either the Savoy Grill where my girlfriend took me for dinner the other day for my birthday, or the Abode in Canterbury.

Runners up would be another Gordon Ramsay place, the Warrington or possibly the Bluebell in Essex.

Eaten at a few michelin star places, but the best overall for me was at The Great House at Lavenham. Reasonably priced, great unfussy service and fantastic food.

It's not Michelin starred or anything but me and my wife ate at Ohana restaurant in the Polynesian restaurant at Disneyworld. The food is served on a kind of rotating basis where servers come round with these big grilled skewers of meats and seafoods. When you've had enough you can have deserts and coffees and things like that. The service was excellent with really friendly staff and we were lucky enough to have our coffees served right when the firework display at magic kingdom started. The restaurant dimmed the lights and we were at the window so we could just chill and watch the fireworks. Maybe not for everyone but I won't forget that meal. :D

the royal oak at paley street (Michael Parkinson's son's pub) would be the best for me. been going there since it had just one AA rosette, and now its got a michelin star. its also got the award for the best pub in england in one of the AA good food guides, and it holds the title for best scotch eggs in the world.

service is fantastic, and the staff are all incredibly friendly. we've been going there for so many special occasions that they know us on a first name basis for booking stuff now

One of the nicest meals I've had was with a lady friend at The Angel Inn at Hetton. It's still a proper pub so has decent beer along with a good wine list, and the food was all cooked to perfection. In fact the steak was the best I've ever had and all the other ingredients seemed to be of very high quality. Service was friendly and not rushed, just nice and relaxed though not slow.

Favourite place been a few times know, siblings and I go at least once a year

Fantastic food and atmosphere, I've been disappointed with other michilin star restraints mainly with atmosphere but food as well, latrompette on the other hand is a bargain.

Second favourite has to be the rummer hotel, all though totally different dinning experience. more for a heavier drinking season( huge selection of proper beer, large, cider, spirits and a more posh pub atmosphere) with amazing food and it is amazing food.

Noma - amazing from start to finish.

It's relaxed, fairly casual and the food actually lives up to it's reputation. You can see the influences of Redzepi's cooking in a lot of other restaurants now, but nothing comes close to matching his genius.

Was thinking about going again this year - a friend of a friend has been 4 times in the past 12 months!

Best eating out experience:

Had to be last year, on a short break to New York for a friends 40th, had an evening at Gilt

The whole experience was, no less than amazing. There was 10 of us and the service was out of this world, every service was put down at exactly the same time and, get this,,,,,,,no cant tell you.

Food matched the service, and the experience matched the bill, worth every penny or cent.

Best would be Alex at Wynn, unfortuately it is no more

if value is brought in them Rosemary's in Vegas takes it

Been to Locanda Locatelli a few times and that's a nice place to have dinner.

Best overall food experience though was at various restaurants throughout Thailand. You just randomly stumble into these places and the food there is bloody amazing, and dead cheap too!

For best overall meal then probably The Fish Hopper in Monterey, California.

Mostly because of the setting- we dined over the Pacific Ocean while wild sea otters swam around in the bay as the sun set. The food was also amazing- I had the best calamari I have ever had, literally melted in your mouth, followed by a stunning rib eye steak with a lobster tail to accompany it. Amazing!

For food alone, Cafe Society in Encore Las Vegas is impeccable. It is so good, we are having our wedding reception there!

Had a great meal at a gastropub type place called The Feathers at Brockton which was also very memorable... http://www.feathersatbrockton.co.uk/

Arbutus in Soho is another good one for food and service but for the best overall experience I think Monterey edges it.

L'Oustal à Citou.

A tiny place (maybe 20 covers) in a tiny village, tucked away in the hills above Carcassonne in the south of France.

Husband is the front of house, his wife cooks. There is no menu - fussy eaters best look somewhere else.
