Best eating out experience?

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay about 3 years ago.

My wife and I were celebrating our birthdays (4 days apart) and we went in.

We had the 'menu prestige' which was amazing. Then we had a bottle of Champagne, Red Wine and a bottle of desert wine.

Total bill was just over £1000

It was outstanding.

Last year, my girlfriend treated me to a night at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons for my birthday. The package we were on included choice of menu. Of course plumped for the Menu Découverte. 9 gorgeous fantastic courses, plus cheese and canapes. Every thing about it was perfect.

And they have the most comfortable beds ever.

Cost over £1000 for both of us, but simply an amazing experience.

One of the best places I've eaten is a little back street pub away from the tourists in North Devon that served straight out the boat sea food.

Not expensive in the slightest, just really good quality, fresh food.

End of last year I went to the Hotel Du Vin in Winchester and had, frankly, the perfect meal. Scallops to start, followed by Chateaubriand and a plate of cheese and crackers. The Polish guy serving us brought out a giant tray with all the cheeses on and knew exactly which ones to recommend, what they tasted like and details of where they were from locally. He also recommended truffle honey, which I'd never even heard of before but it really adds to the flavour of the cheese. Everything was perfectly cooked, arrived in good time and the service was attentive but never intrusive.

The sommelier recommended a slightly pricy but absolutely delicious wine and I had an excellent short cocktail with Grey Goose and orange in it.

I rarely get to go to places like that but it was well worth it - a meal I shan't forget.

I have two favourites,

Name: Meze
Location: Brighouse, West Yorks
Type of Food: Cypriot (some Greek, some Turkish)
Wesbite: http://www.mezerestaurant.co.uk

Absolutely amazing food. Often ends up not a cheap night (have to order all your sides separately and drinks are fairly dear, meal for 2 costs ~£80) but it's worth it as a treat. No plate smashing unfortunately but it's not a "traditional" oldey-worldy Greek place. Well worth a visit

New, brilliant, restaurant near me:

Name: Eric's Restaurant
Location: Lindley, Huddersfield, West Yorks
Type of Food: British
Website: http://www.ericsrestaurant.co.uk/

Gorgeous food and good prices. The owner worked under Marco Pierre White and Bill Grainger before coming home to Huddersfield to open his own place. Ate there a few weeks ago, just brilliant food

I went out with the family last night for a meal at a local restaurant on Newcastle quayside called Sachins.

They create original Punjabi cuisine... and it is simply stunning.. the flavours and spices used in their dishes in second to none in the Newcastle area imo.
Anyone from round Newcastle should defo try the place.. and its reasonable in price too

Name: Sachins
Location: Newcastle Quayside, Forth Banks
Type of food: Punjabi
Website: www.sachins.co.uk

Went to a place in bacelona just off the les rambles in the big square best food i have ever had only came to about 40 pounds each

A family run restaurant in Cyprus my family and I stumbled upon when exploring some random area between Troodos and Limmasol; we went in for directions and the atmosphere was so captivating we stayed for a meal.

The menus were in Greek only, the staff barely spoke any English whatsoever, and we finally got somewhere when we mentioned 'Mezze'; what followed was the most delicious, varied and intriguing selection of dishes- brought out one at a time as they were cooked in the open kitchen across the courtyard in front of us.

Beef, pork, chicken, fish, octopus, vegetables, wines- I lost count of the number of dishes and poor translated conversations were had as the locals laughed at our introductions to ouzo and other spirits.

The experience was finished with the Grandad of the family waddling over with a huge bunch of grapes for us to take home, freshly cut from the pergolas over the courtyard.

No michelin ratings or chef names above a door, hell - there wasn't even a door!

A purely extravagant and enjoyable dining experience :D
