Best 'encrypted' password manager for browsers (chrome/firefox/IE)?

Guess it's because Dashlane is limited in comparison to Lastpass.

Just had a look at the free v premium features and it looks like you can't even access your passwords from the webpage?

Great if you're using it on one device but I use Lastpass on multiple PC's and using the website for one offs which is a must for me.

Does anyone know if any of these (Lastpass, Dashlane, 1Password) support logins where you have to enter three digits from a much longer password.

Keepass supports this, so I guess the answer is that I should just keep using Keepass, but interested to know if I'm missing anything with the others.

Not sure why you'd want a more insecure program to be honest - especially when it's on the web.

Lastpass - for me - is all about more security. I enter a long password to get on to the site and then I have a google authenticator token which I have to enter.

I don't think Lastpass can. https://forums.lastpass.com/viewtopic.php?t=84287

Although how is Keepass doing it? Those systems usually ask for random characters, so how does Keepass know which ones to serve up?

It doesn't do it automatically, there is a special 'macro command' that you can put in the auto-type script called {PICKCHARS}. This then displays a dialog box with the 20 (or however many) characters in your password and buttons under each character (the actual characters aren't displayed). You then press the buttons that correspond to the characters being asked for, and then Keepass puts them in. Saves the laborious business of having to count 13 characters into a string, and rather a neat solution I reckon.

Just surprised that the paid for products don't have some sort of solution to this. Dashlane support have just confirmed that they don't support it.

Ah I see, that is quite an elegant solution. If there is demand then I wouldn't be surprised to see other vendors adopt that approach.

I stopped using Lastpass just the idea of it being a US based company with servers primarily in Us and stored in a cloud, with NSA no thanks safety first if its stored local much safer imo.

Keepass is great for this however I have noticed it does not always work with keefox+keepass some sites even like ebay does not always auto fill, sometimes hitting ctrl+alt+a can manually autofill it but many times I find I have to manually copy n paste username, password. I see Dashlane claims to not have this issue with auto logins and you can store locally or in cloud which gets my interest !

Hopefully there is a way to convert keepass database to dashlane? Going to try it out regardless.

edit googled it

Uninstalled dashlane

By default they install Premium and also leave Auto Sync to cloud by default! No mention of even would you like to install database locally you have to switch it off yourself. Also on sign up they require your email and store your details via there servers.

Not good at all for the more privacy or secure and paranoid haha

Ill stick with keepass everything done locally and cuts out any privacy/security concerns will just have to figure out how to fix those few sites not working sometimes:)

I *think* eBay disables pasting in password fields. Maybe that's the issue?

And while I'm here another vote for keepass + dropbox.

Well its hit and miss it works autofilling 6 times out of 10 on ebay for me.
Even Amazon has never worked it fails on first log in then goes to try again screen and then works.

That is with keefox installed and keepass latest versions naturally.

I know there is a way of editing the lines and usernames/fields etc but its not easy with Lastpass it was dead simple it tracked every possible field and box on the site and allowed you to customize with ease.

Still keepass is best overall for now.

Hey all

I know this was a while back, but finally got round to trying out KeePass.

I've done several entries, however I notice if i copy and paste the password it appears as asterix's in the password entry however when pasting it into word, notepad etc it literally pastes the password.

Might sound stupid, but how is this secure? Also, does KeePass pop up when you're at a login stage or do you need to manually open it, enter database password and then copy and paste what you want there?

Edit; looking at 1password and lastpass but don't like the idea of it syncing anywhere - want it locally really.

Those moaning about Lastpass, then go store their keypass data on cloud - negating any claim about it being more secure as it's local.

If you want properly secured don't have a computer on the internet, anything else is a risk, accept it and move on. Lastpass is still IMO the best solution for those needing a secure platform, or ideally stop using Windows and move to Linux too.

I'm not knocking Keypass, I'm simply stating how silly some of the arguments against Lastpass are.

Ok so I've just tried LastPass and thought Google Auth was a good idea.

Only problem is, every time I login to a site to 'retrieve' my new random passwords, it doesn't ever ask for the Google Auth code and only asks for the master password?
