Best External HDD 250-400gb?

Hi guys.

Need a bit of advice/help please. Just wondered what the best external HDD is at the moment, best for price etc. I want something between 250gb and 400gb.

Also do they normally need power from AC adapter or do they run from the usb itself? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

AC power adapter, at least my mates packard bell 160 gb hdd does...

Ones using 2.5" laptop disks don't generally need extra power, but 3.5" desktop hdd based ones will do.

Personally I use a 160GB Samsung disk in an Icybox which means I can replace the HDD with any other IDE disk (you can get SATA versions). The Western Digital prebuilt externals look pretty good for the price as well.

I've used the pre-built WD drives and they work very well. But getting an external enclosure and drive separately is probably the best way to do it. You know exactly what you're getting that way, and can always move the drive internally later on if you need to.
