OK, so there are no "true" F1 games on the PC at the moment, due to Sony holding the license, but as far as I see it, there are 3 other options.

1) LFS S2, with all the updated skins and some graphics patches.
2) rFactor, again with a load of patches.
3) Grand Prix 4, patched graphically and to include 2006 cars.

Am I correct? And if I am, which is the best option?

I want something that looks amazing, I REALLY can't put up with shoddy graphics.
I also like realistic crash damage, it annoys me that how LFS (The only one of the above that I have played) just screws your car up like a ball of paper, whilst all the wheels remain attached.
Something with a bit of easy handling, so I can complete a full race without falling off the track would be a bit better, though I could just go get a wheel/learn to drive.

Cheers!

So, what should I choose?

rFactor + F12005 mod by CTDP (2006 in works). Great graphics and driving model (though sounds like you will need some of the aids on ;) ). Go over to rFactorcentral or RSC forums to see.

If they did bring out a new GP and i hope they do somewhen i would go ahh mad!! woo new GP

Thats exactly what i would do ^^

How come they cant make any new ones?

im currently playing lfs - but i only play the grand prix cars which i love.

But gp4 will always be a classic in my mind :)
I only ever drive the F1 cars on LFS now.:D I also quite like rFactor. LFS and rFactor have plus and minus points so I have both.

GP4 is a classic and still looks good considering how old it is.

I tried F1C 99-02 with the CTDP 2005 update a while back. Seemed OK but quite 'simmy' you definitely need a wheel/pedals for this as without driving aids it's absolutely impossible to control the car using a pad.

yeah the F1 car isnt used much (apart from oval, which is pretty good close racing, but not for everyone)... F08 is making a bit of a comeback, and you can always find a full FOX server to get a good close race on.

RFactor CTDP is amazing aswell, imo, the physics arent up to scratch of LFS (not CTDP's fault, rfactor downside), but its still amazing to drive.

GP4 i have and like, but it isnt sim, its more of a train simulator than a driving simulator. it can look amazing though :D

Yup, defineitely much more of a sim game, and thats a whole load of the attraction :D
I've played both GP4 & F1C 99-02 (Logitech Driving Force wheel), and the difference in realism is staggering- Its perfectly possible to play GP4 with all driver aids off, and it could even be called 'easy', and definietly very arcadey. F1C on the other hand- Turn the force feedback up as far as it'll go both in game & in the Logitek settings and enable the centering spring, and enjoy fighting the car all the way the track

i have both as well and both moded but must say gp4 does it for me every time and you say easy has any one ever one a race in gp4 ?

EA's version i really dont like looks great with mod but feels kinda weird like if the steering is centered on the car, kinda like a bendy forklift er if you get my drift.

also not sure if it's my rig but have big replay bug in EA's game it's ok in early mods but the new 2005 mod kinda jerks which realy put's me off cos like to see me replays :)

GP4 looks the best to me with all the graphical add-ons, new cars and track updates. I have 99-02 but it never won me round, GP4 isn't perfect physics-wise but I still prefer to have a race on there (It's true the game is far too easy with a wheel in the original game, but with the season add-ons the car physics are much better). I'll post a screenshot of what it looks like at 1920x1200 with the graphic add-ons when I get home later

Any chance of that screenie? :)

And where would you suggest shopping for Grand Prix 4, please? I couldnt find it today. :(

The bay looks expensive, anyone know any high-street stores that normally stock it? Thanks.

Yeah sorry about that, here's a few, taken straight out of the game with the 2005 cars

I don't think you'll find any shops with it, maybe a few that stock second hand games are worth a try, but the bay is your best bet.
