I know it has been asked many a time, but I'm just thinking of re-installing windows. So am looking for a good firewall. (also my current f-secure one keeps forgetting which programs are permitted to connect to the net, forever throwing up dialoges asking for confirmation)
For antivirus I am using F-Secure, mainly because I've been using it for a while but also because they seem pretty up on the new virus's etc, with the development of their new rootkit protection (BackLight), also it includes ad-aware pro.
On the firewall I already have a custom iptables+snort linux firewall/router which everything goes thru. But I just want a nice firewall which will allow me to do some nice app and port filtering, with the addition of IDS. I have heard loads of people recommend zonealarm but the last time I used that (few years at least) it was pretty buggy, caused problems and ended up making me re-install windows just to get rid of it
.
Sygate looks like a popular one aswell, altho I read the support and development has stopped. Outpost and BlackICE look ok tho, The blackice IDS looks pretty good.

). However being a firewall and not an AV then the support is not so critical, at least for now. I am currently considering some others but until I find something as good it will stay.
good job I tried it before doing a new install.
