Best format to save CV in?

I use DOC but also do have a PDF version.

I once had someone send a CV to me as a JPEG. After I finished looking at it 0_o. We called him in as it was a low end job and he had what we wanted. During the interview I asked why he sent it as a JPEG. He returned "I did it in paint/gimp".

Dont think he got the job in the end :P.

Always use .doc or .pdf.

I usually use .pdf - especially if passing it through an agent so they can't edit it. If using .doc format make sure you only use fonts available on all Windows PCs like Arial and Times New Roman.

Apparently some agencies like to be able to remove your contact details from your CV so that all the contact goes through them? Sounds pretty dodgy to me, I'd just use PDF...

It's not that dodgy, although the best agents have a sufficiently good relationship with their client base they don't worry about it. However, I want to know whether they are doing it or not so I can re-edit my CV to be formatted properly with or without contact details. Agents that do this will just phone up and ask for one without contact details.

.doc

Had numerous emails back from people saying cant open .pdf when I sent a few in .pdf format.

Unless is specifically states .pdf then I always send .doc now, and definately not .docx

And wow wordpad? Just get Word...

word = £90
Open Office = free

which one is the best option again?

I have mine in Word but I've been emailed back by a few companies asking for a copy in PDF

Is there not something you can get for open office to save things as a .doc?

Open Office/Libre Office can save as PDF nativly - its in the File Menu - Export - PDF.

it does that if you get teh default to doc, or simply change the save format when saving...

PDF

Although had to send in .doc by request once. Think some of the ones who can't open PDF is because they've not updated to the latest version of Reader

PDF all the way, some companies I applied to even specifically request it.

Sending as a PDF is one of the only ways to guarantee the reader views it with the formatting you made it with.
