I use infrarecorder, very easy to use and have had no issues with it

OP, did you mean burning AVI files onto a DVD disc, or did you mean convert AVIs to a DVD format so that the DVD will play in any machine? Just checking...

I do apologize for not being clear. I meant, convert AVIs to DVD format so that any DVD player can play them.

AVI2DVD is free, but I've never personally used it. I tend to use EasyDVD Creator or WinAVI, but they're paid-for software.

As a burning engine, indeed. But the OP wants to convert AVIs to DVD format, which IMGBurn doesn't do.

It's better than pretty much anything I've tried, paid for or not. I'm keeping it. GPL software wins again!

Is there any way to alter the way it uses folders though? I noticed it dumps everything (on Win7) under C:\Users\(me)\Documents\dvd\

It leaves a lot of logs, a second dvd folder with the vobs, and a further ISO in the main folder. A little wasteful and messy, but hardly the end of the world. A "preferences" button would have been nice, but one can't complain considering!

Nero has always done fine on my winxp/vista/win7 box, always recodes into fine sync etc.
