Hi folks.

Have a friend asking me about what the best free webdesign software available is.

Having been a long term Dreamweaver user, free design software is something I've never really looked into, so need a few suggestions.

The fella concerned has almost no HTML knowledge, so he is looking for a WYSIWYG editor, Notepad is out of the question completely.

Any suggestions appreciated. ;)

Tom, no, he's not designing websites.

I should have explained a bit better.

The guy concerned had a web site designed, setup and hosted for him.

I dont know the full details, but there was some sort of "fallout" that took place because of emails not being able to be delivered and the original designer washed their hands of the whole thing, handing over the entire website to the fella concerned.

They guy has now hosted the website elsewhere and now wants to edit the website itself.

Some of the site is .asp based and never mind HTML, he has no .asp experience whatsoever.

Having conversed with him in the last hour and subsequently got more info on the whole issue, I think he's on a hiding to nothing now, not sure what to suggest to him.

At first I thought he just needed a WYSIWYG to edit some text and pics etc, then upload the ammended pages and files to his host via FTP, but it now appears it aint as simple as that.

So yeah......Notepad.........nope....not an option as I already explained. :p

Interesting this popped up now, I was just looking at Visual Web Developer 2008 Express to create a simple site with.
Has anyone used this much yet?

I'm a .NET developer so am familiar with Visual Studio, but I've mostly done WinForms or back end ASP.NET stuff so I'm not overly familiar with front end web development.
Given the similarities with Visual Studio would this be a good choice, or is there something better out there?
