On any console, I have to say: Zelda Ocarina of time.

Although graphics are much better now obviously, few games have even come close to mastering the gameplay, playability, so far ahead of its time in terms of sheer awesomeness.

(honorable mention to goldeneye which took up 3 happy years of my life, perfect dark took up 5 because of that multiplayer, and mario 64). But zelda is the man!!;)

Very subjective but the Best Game Ever for me on a console is Time Splitters II on the Xbox. 4 Players with mates, beer and monkeys on turrets. Best Game Ever.

I don't know, I couldn't really pick out one, If it was the game I'd spent the most time on it'd probably be Fallout 3/NV, Halo CE/2, possibly FIFA 10. As said the Timesplitters games were awesome. However I couldn't definitively give you a one game answer.

true, veryyyy objective, but generally, theres a group of games which keep cropping up in the best games charts, timesplitters is one of them.

i guess its the game or games that really occupied a lot of your time and u really enjoyed. i remember when i bought zelda i literally thought of nothing all day ( i was a kid then), whereas now thousands of forgettable games are released every day, quality is few and far between

You said console but overall I would be stuck between Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Deus Ex. I would probably give it to Deus Ex by a whisper.

you see, if I was to list the game i've played the most and I'd consider that to be the best game ever then it'd be -

GT3 on the PS2.

However, its not as simple as that. Its really hard to say which is the best game ever as over time graphics, gameplay and story etc changes everything..

Until only yesterday I felt the best game i'd played in a long time was Batman Arkham on the PS3... Then, I got Mass Effect 2 and now I feel this is without doubt the best game i've ever played..

Before Batman Arkham it would have been GT3, then before this Resident Evil on the PS1 and then Super Street Fighter Turbo on the SNES...

Its really hard, as games develop it changes...

Too hard for me to choose tbh, for me it's either:

Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)
Grand Theft Auto Vice City (PS2)

I loved San Andreas, really, really loved it and there was so much to do, the map was massive and the characters all really interesting with great dialogue and amazing radio stations but it just couldn't re-capture the magic of 3 & Vice City for me, even though I still hold it in incredibly high regard.

Crikey, thats an old game. I remember BBC Micros and Pole Position was it? :D

I had Pole Position on the Spectrum, and Elite if truth be known. My mates had it on the BBC Micro, I just thought it best to credit the original platform as it was ported to just about everything that could run it. It was, if you compare to whatever else was around at the time, just stunning.
Then Frontier Elite 2 came out with an entire galaxy of individual systems on one 1.4mb floppy disc  I don't care what anyone says Braben's a genius.
