Best game in 2014 you felt was next gen?

Ryse: SOR maxxed out is the only true nextgen game I saw in 2014 that was also released the same year.

Alien Isolation was a great game but a mainly DX9 based game with basic DX11 FX.

Ryse was funded by Microsoft as an XB1 exclusive so thank MS for the deep pockets to produce such a stunning looking game you really need to buy/play it screenshots/videos do not show just how stunning it looks forget the basic gameplay the gfx are truly next gen the best example is the boats coming ashore titanic battle sequences

Ryse shows you just how much the consoles hold back PC gfx it could have been made 4 years ago

nothing really.

best games i played graphically last year were ENB modded skyrim but such a arse to make work and combining mods it just makes it too much hassle to do.

why someone hasn't just made a all in one launcher for it i don't know :(.

It's run fine for a while now, it just needed a decent quad core which wasn't the standard at the time.

At what settings and res? I'm still unable to get an even 60fps at 1080p on my setup (780 GTX and an i5 Ivy @4Ghz) with everything max.

Drops down to 30fps at some points! So I don't think it runs well at all.

Alien Isolation.

If Ryse is the future, I may have to give up gaming for good. I can think of nothing redeeming about it. Terrible game.

I just thought the graphics where phenominal. I thought the game play and the story where quite good too.

And the camera angles ofthe action was brilliant.

Only downside, would be very short, very repetitive and the 'boss' fights where in parts totally rubbish (especially Boudica)

Other than that it was amazing!

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

not the best game, but best gfx I've seen

Yep, certainly this.
Gameplay was nice but the visuals were simply the best I've seen and did actually bring a lot to the game.

Even more amazing considering the company that made it is an indy.

I bought one game that was released in 2014, the binding of isaac rebirth which was styled as a GBA game.

After the disaster of BF4 I became super sceptical of pre release hype and that has helped me avoid countless shocking releases in 2014.

Next gen is a joke.

Nothing, the term "next gen" ive only heard since the latest consoles came out and im not even sure what it means accept to resell the same game with slightly better graphics and to fix bugs.

It doesn't really mean anything, at least in the way people use it.

If something is "next-gen" then it's something you won't be playing in the present.

Alien Isolation, not only does it look great it runs great too and the sheer amount of detail in the game compared to the films is incredible.

This, but for not just whats been mentioned but the AI too of the alien on hard. Genuinely disturbing game at times.

Next Gen... Such a nasty, desperate console term. :(

The best looking game I played last year was a rather over modded version of Skyrim, though Dragon Age Inquisition certainly had some special gfx moments. Besides that, 2014 for me was a year of gameplay over graphics.

Next Gen is a marketing term for Sony and MS. nothing more. The best games I have played last year have poor graphics when compared to blockbuster games that I have played in the past year. Gameplay is where it is at, leave the next-gen console boys.

Looking back at the games I have bought over the last two years and other than Elite and Planetary Annihilation all the games I have bought have been indie or picked up cheap in the steam sale sales.

First time I saw BF4 I guess on my brothers PS4. This was before I invested in a PC and the first time seeing BF4 in person (coming from BF3 on the 360).

I think we have been at a plateau in terms of PC graphics for a couple of years.. not much stands out to me. AI did but was it what we really want next gen to be?

The term next-gen is such a generic marketing term now it may as well translate to 'average to above average graphics with variable game-play that we can sell millions of copies of.'

*And in the case of GTA V - twice!
