I don't realy use software to capture anymore my self I use a capture card only problem with them is most or all can only capture at 1920x1080p at 30hz not realy a problem still smooth but not 60fps that we are all used to but not realy a problem for me as I am doing all old games at lower res which I can capture 60fps in.
If you are going to use fraps or other software then heres a few pointers
1 - Save the video to a different drive other to the game you are playing capturing uses the hard drive hard so will stop games loading stuff quick
2 - Turn off AA when I did tests most problems recording with fraps was down to AA dunno why might of been a buggy version of fraps maybe
3 - not all games like being captured - Take rage still to this day my fraps can't record rage it makes it Jurky
