Best gamers and platform?

Been watching some friends play modern warfare on an xbox and it looks pretty tricky trying to use a gamepad to aim and move at the same time. What platform e.g pc, xbox etc are you likely to find the best gamers on a particular game and why would you rate one console above another??

I'm going to have to say PC gamers are generally better at first person shooters, you cannot beat the accuracy of the mouse and keyboard.

Most of the first person shooters on consoles make up for the slow controller response time by adding in a certain level of auto aiming dumbing down the playability :p

First person shooters are definitely played at a higher skill level on the pc.

Knives lies.. It's got to be me! :D

Quite a difficult one to call – you would think PC due to its ease of use for FPS games, but that’s exactly why I’m going with console!

I spent years as a pretty hardcore Battlefield player on the PC, working through all the add-ons and mods from 1942 up to Battlefield 2 (2142 sucked!), and I would say that I could hold my own, often finishing 1st, but usually in the top 4 of both teams.

When I jumped ship to the 360 I had a nightmare trying to adjust to a controller, so totally appreciate how difficult it can be to use, and for that fact alone I think that those of us willing to tackle a FPS on a pad means we’re better :D

Between the 360 and PS3’s players (I have both btw), I still think that the PS3 has the better crowd at the moment, but due to the drops in price, there are a few more kids playing, who basically eff it up for the rest.

Just my opinion.

Best gamers? Who knows, there's skill involved in being good at most games.

Best platform? PC every time. Games always look better, mods, mostly free map packs (unlike the consoles), better controls (you can use a 360 pad if the game suits it better), and a better community. Only negative is the cost of a cutting edge PC compared to the consoles, what with the 360 dipping under £100 now.

PC most def, however as mentioned above it costs an arm and a leg trying to keep up with the latest pc technology and can be a pain also as some games wont work or something will go wrong. I've recently made the move to console and love the... stress free feel when I play.

While I wont dispute that a PC gamer up against a console gamer would win I think the skill involved in using a pad at pro level seems more skillful to me. I've been both a console and pc gamer and aim wise as a pc gamer with a low mouse sense I would just snap to heads....after all its simply point and click. Where as some of the pro console players I've seen I just don't understand how they can be that accurate with a pad.

When watching pro CS players its not their aim that separates them from the high skilled public players its the strats. Where as with console pros its both aim and strats. While auto aim plays a part its not going to get you head shots every time - during top team MLG games it seems its head shots or dead.

However I think the bottom line is that its tough at the top and each in their respective fields its equal in raw skill in slightly different ways. I think the players that are going to invest more time in public play and take it seriously are PC gamers although with hacking , configing, and ghosting rife I dont see it as a competitive field any more which is part of the reason why I quit.

Makes no difference.

The platforms don't go up against each other therefore which is best is irrelevant.

To be at the top of any you need to be a paranoid bugger who puts in loads of time practising and memorising.

So choose your platform to be Pr0 on ^_^

Picking your platform is like a representation of your mentality; pick the PC and people know your serious, pick a noobstick and well, that ones self explanatory.

Picking the right game on the other hand, is priceless. Pick 1.6.

I massively dispute this, Halo players have a completely different style of aim compared to say, a counterstrike player. You will often find halo players using movement to 'align' the crosshair with the enemy, neglecting the right thumbstick, which is responsible for crosshair movement alone (aim). In comparison a counterstrike gamer does not go about his business this way, instead there is a massive focus on pre-aiming, keeping the crosshair in a useful position and when it actually comes to hitting that guy in the head, the hand and the mouse are fully responsible.

Two different playstyles for me, and although I agree there are hugely talented halo players out there I do believe that pure potential lies with the PC gamer purely for the fact that a mouse/mousepad is easier to use, much much more versatile and furthermore your using your hand, and not your thumb.

I can see it from both sides TBH. I don't really feel strongly either way so I'm happy to agree.

Best gamers eg pro? gamers. Only on PC, although i'm sure there are Halo tournaments etc with prize money.
Have to disagree with the guy who said it isn't the aim its the strats. Its a combination of aim, awareness and teamplay. There are loads of console players with 'good' aim but most are only aware of what is right in front of them. Put them in a clan match in a good league (not really aware of console ones just former PC ones I used to use) and they will bottom most times despite their aim. On PC 'pro' players have very good AND consistent aim, eg they will pull off the required quick shot 9/10 and can handle the recoil on the weapons. On consoles the recoil tends to be dumbed down and controllers can't match the accuracy of a mouse so the controller is really 'limiting' how good console players can get.

Should point out that I only play games on consoles now and love FPS's on Live but used to play a PC shooter at that shooters 'higher' level so know the difference between a good public player with just good aim and a smart player.

Like Hotwired said it doesn't matter. If your on 360 you play against other 360 players so whether the controller is slower or not doesn't change anything since you're still just left having to try and beat a player that will win based on skill and not controller differences. PC gamers may have the edge since the mouse is more accurate so it can accentuate skill better, making a skilled gamer able to do more with it. But in the end it makes little difference as minor accuracy advantage isn't going to turn bad gamers into super skilled ones by any measure. Pick a system and try and be as good as you can on it. When it comes to which system has the most skilled players though it's hard to say, you can't really keep track and PC has had the longest legacy of competitive gaming but who's to say lots of PC gamers haven't moved to consoles with there rise in popularity? And with games like Ninja gaiden and Demons souls clearly there's room for tough games on consoles. 360 should have better players than PS3 I'd imagine since it's a more competitive system with games like Halo and Gears being played heavily compared to sales and usage of PS3 online games like metal gear. I'd say
PC
360
PS3
Wii

But that's obviously a guess.

Everyone is saying PC, which is fair enough, but isn't the OP's question which "gamers" are better? Not who has the better/more accurate equipment? Either way the question is flawed as you can not compare different control methods directly, apples and oranges. Different control methods require different skills, an individual may be great on a controller but useless with a mouse, it's all relative to the individual and the platform. One thing I will so though is, only a poor workman blames his tools! :)
