Best gaming mag

when I used to buy them, I think PC Zone was a better mag, but PC Gamer had more detail. I've heard Edge is great. I rather like GamesMaster personally.

I don't read many of the latest gaming magazines but back in the days of the SNES I use to love reading a magazine called "Super Play". The magazine was mainly full of japanese RPG ( Role Playing Game(s)) and consisted of reviews / previews / guides. Games such as Secret of Mana / Chrono Trigger / Illusion of Gaia / Final Fantasy etc were just some of the reviews I read up on in this magazine.

O the memories :)

NEW PC Format just out and NO sad semi naked girl on the cover. It's now quite a good mag, with a mix of games and tech.

I will buy it if the covers stay like this.

Can't say I've seen any of these covers but why does a scantily clad lady on the front cover bother you so much? Surely it has no impact on the content inside the magazine, and I'm sure it helps them sell a few more copies.

PC Zone here. I just agree with 90% of their reviews and find them funny unlike PC Gamer. I still believe the best games journalism exists in the printed media, however that trend is shifting.

Shame on anyone who thinks PC Gamer (PCG) is a better read than PCZONE (PCZ).

PCZ contains some of the best writing and journalism i've ever read, and the staff writers are truly talented at their craft... it's spot-on, intended for an adult audience, and genuinely makes me laugh. Their reviews are rarely ever wrong, and their gaming taste was and is sublime, they championed some of the finest games in existence, often before other mags were aware of them. They also get some of the best exclusives, and where else would you find articles like Neverquest?

PCG is completely soul-less in comparison, added to which their reviews can be quite frankly pants... they've also reviewed unfinished code in the past in order to be the first review out. Can't remember exactly which games but it was a while back now.

PCZ for the win, each and every time, been reading it monthly for around ooh... 12 years now? In my opinion completely peerless and I feel dirty whenever I buy a different mag. :)

I think that last line kinda sums it up, it has nothing to do with the contents...it just seems a sad thing to do and designed solely to appeal to spotty teens.

As a -slightly- more mature gamer I find it a bit embarrasing.

@Richdog Do you work for PCZ or something? you sound like an evangalist...and on the eighth day God made PCZ - little known fact ;)

I have the complete set - issues 1-47 :D

Nothing comes close. Would like to see what some of the writers and editors are up to now.

Such a cool style. Way ahead of its time.

Absolutely agree with you. I was shocked to find that PC Gamer has a larger reader base when Zone is just well...better. The actual staff seem somewhat less 'nerdy' (don't like using the word :( ) . I have bought a few PC Gamers in the past year. In particular for some of their exclusives. I remember they were first to cover the Command and Conquer 3 review and read through the mag and just cringed at some of the comments they made.

Been reading it for over a decade... that's all you need to know. ;)

I subscribe to PC Format and get Custom PC most months. They both have a gaming section with PC Format edging it in that respect. Out of the specialist PC gaming mags, I prefer PC Zone to PC gamer and buy the former every couple of months.

custom PC is my magazine of choice, get it every month. it isnt exactly a game mag, but it has 2 or 3 games reviewed every month and a couple of pages with games previews.
