Best GFX Card for under £200?

4890. You'd be mad to spend an extra £20 on a card which is the same speed.

Driver problems plague both companies - you can't really use it as a reason to prefer one over the other. :)

I'm not I was just asking if there was. I've never had an ATI card so i'm just asking around and what better place than this :p.

What do you mean by, "4890. You'd be mad to spend an extra £20 on a card which is the same speed."?

The 275 is the (slightly) faster card, don't let anyone tell you otherwise and also clocks very well. That's not to say the 4890/4870/260-216 aren't also good cards though.

I would go for the 275 personally.

The ASUS 4890 is £164, while the GTX 275 is about 30 quid more. In many reviews, they perform about equal. So it depends on whether you think the extra few FPS that the XFX GTX 275 is worth your £30.

I have just bought myself an ASUS 4890 for £164, which is just a bargain given it's price and performance. Last time I had an ATI card was many years ago when the 9800 cards were the hottest stuff on the market :p

I haven't received my 4890 yet, it should be coming tomorrow. I'll happily update you if everything goes well.

I normally game at 1920 x 1200, and my 8800GTX is starting to struggle sometimes!

Head over here for some figures on performance:

Bear in mind the ASUS 4890 allows you to overclock (if not already done for you) through the apps while still being covered by warranty. Which is even better value for money :)

Yeah that is pretty good. I've never overclocked my gfx card because to be honest I didn't want to. I still nervous about getting an ATI but it looks like i shouldn't. I mean, if anything DID go wrong there would be no harm in sending it back. There has been a few shouts for the GTX 275. Looks like i'm stuck in the middle between these 2.

The 275 is the faster card, you also benefit from physics/CUDA which makes up the £30 easily.
There have been a lot of threads around various forums showing the 4890 to have some problems, cant remember any specifics so you'd need to google.

I recently was in the same situation & went for the 275 :)

Plus it's Nvidia which was what I was hoping to go for anyways. Still a bit of a hard one. Of all my mates who game on their PC's only 1 has an ATI. Most of the others laugh when i mention ATI. Nearly went bust a few years back aswell i heard?

No, they were going strong, have been for some time.
ATI make good cards, the 9800 range was very good, beat Nvidia hands down.
This range though Nvidia has the crown. Next range, next year ATI might pull it back, who knows...

I haven't seen too many problems regarding the 4890 on here. A couple of people had a dodgy fan, which they sent back for a new one, and someone else had an old PSU.

I have been a bit out of the loop with hardware, but from reading the Guru3D review they have said ATI have really progressed with their drivers, and in the past this has been a big problem.

In the worst case, if you bought an ATI card that didn't work you can always return it and get yourself an NVIDIA :) If I was in your position I would get an 4890 just because it is cheaper and offers more bang for your buck :)

Both manufacturers have their advantages and foibles. Nvidia have Physx and Cuda, while ATI have a more regularly updated and comprehensive set of drivers. Nvidia's phsyx is still a gimmick and CUDA underutilised, while ATI's cards often suffer from poor reference cooling solutions. Depends on personal preference, and expereiences with those cards. I've never really had problems with either
