Best graphics card for £400 ?

Usually you would say yes it's cheaper and possibly cheaper, but Nvidia Drivers are a lot more reliable than the AMD ones we already know that the stock R290 was rushed into production with the effect that they were increadibly noisy and hot an aftermarket R290 would be a better bet but just read the forums and you will see that many people have problems with running particular versions of AMD Drivers. For me I want a card I can stick in the PC and have no problems.

As I mentioned benchmarking and overclocking is a completely different kettle of fish but as you mentioned it's mainly for gaming then Nvidia would tip the balance for me.

I agree with the facepalm. Drivers excuses is so 2010.

I would suggest the GTX 780 or the R9 290. In both cases, an after market cooler should be proritize. Especially the R9 290, don't get a reference card if you plan of staying on air. Twin Frozr or Tri-X.

I was a die hard nvidia fan.

But my experiences with a pair of 280X's and now 290X and something else, have shown me the light, hallelujah im saved!!

The drivers are fine now, no complaints.

I'd hang on a little longer and wait for the new upcoming Nvidia drivers and see what it has to offer, these new drivers are reported as giving Nvidia GPU's a large speed boost and have reportedly pulled ahead of even Mantle supported game and rumour has it these new drivers will be good across DX11 range and not game specific meaning all DX11 games will get this speed boost if true, something AMD will not benefit from. The 780 is also compatible with the new DX12 API due in 2015 so you wont have to upgrade the card. The 780 ref card runs cool and quiet and benefits from PhysX that adds great game effects to PhysX supported games, it also supports Nvidia 3D vision which looks absolutely stunning but you would need a 120Hz monitor and 3D vision kit.
