I have the same CPU and case and went for a 290, it maxes out battlefield 4 flawlessly so a 290x wouldn't be a bad option if you don't mind a bit of noise and heat.

I run mine at constant 50% fan speed and it never goes over 85 degrees.

The performance difference between the 290 and 290X isn't worth the price premium IMO, unless you're benchmarking. If you're looking for great performance at a price that's spot on for a single GPU card it's the 290.

Just keep in mind that the reference 290/290X are hotter and louder than the 780s that you're interested in so the 780s probably has much a better balance if you're not going to watercool.

Now the 7990 has extreme performance when a game supports it well, but as it's a dual GPU card you need to be really sure if you are comfortable with the fact that the scaling might not work properly all the time, among other problems with Vsync that may need programs like RadeonPro to give a smoother feel. I picked a MSI one up for £360 elsewhere yesterday and they are still available if you look around but no free games I think.

I've yet to play a game where sli/crossfire is unused.
And even if its not (which it would be in aaa games) you are left with a 7970 which is pretty good still

If you cannot wait, get a GTX780 or a R9 290 and replace the cooler.

You can find pre overclocked Ghz 780s for less than 400 atm. I got one and I haven't looked back.

with the r9 290, which manufactuer is best to go for, and what is the unlocked versions called.

not too bothered how much it costs as I have a £400 budget what would you guys say is the ultimate best card I could get for that price rang,e would you still say the r9 290

as I am thinking abit about the future, I don't want a card that will just last 1 year. I want it last a few lol

somebody has just told me get a 680 gxt im confused now

290's the best for performance for the lowest price.

7990's the best performing card by a mile. It puts out a lot of heat though so side ventilation is a good idea.

7990 is the best performance you can get for your money but it may be less pick up and play with some games compared to a single GPU as it's more likely you will find problems along the way with drivers.

That's the eternal con with dual GPU cards and it's why you need to think do I want better performance than any single GPU card when this 7990 scales right, or a (more likely) hassle free single GPU card that performs worse. The 7990 I got yesterday is back up to £395 so maybe it was a Black Friday deal.

7990s are the same, so it varies on warranty only.

Gigabyte 7990 wins out there. See if you can get the price back down to £400, it's been at that a few times lately.

edit:

Ok, too big. The 290X is the best then, but the 290 is almost as fast.
