What are the Best Internal Hard Drives of 2013 for storage. Need it to be Reliable. Had a couple of failures from Samsung Recently so have no trust in them what so ever now.
Drive wont be in system all the time, Will use it as a Hot Swop, Just want it to be Reliable With Important stuff.

Thx

what model of samsung? f4 2tb or f3 1tb? they are usually very reliable

next choice would be a wd 2tb?

for me i'd choose Enterprise Class Drives http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=14&subid=2270 are made for longer life span and more use etc, , not saying a green would fail in heavy use in raid0 or anything else either, just was never meant to be used for so long 24/7 use or designed for it either

for casual backups on a storage drive that's accessed every few hours or so at max a green or blue or black would be fine.

for anything that's accessed more often, for me i'd use something that was designed for long heavy use and go for Enterprise Class Drives

Thanks for the response and advice...

I have had 3 Failures with the 'Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache' over the last 2-3 years. And they not been in pc all the time, Only when putting stuff on them or taking stuff off. wasn't impressed at all.

I have heard good things of WD and the Enterprise Class sounds good thx
It wont be in all the time so wont get long use, not even everyday just now and again for like 5-10 mins maybe 30m-1hr max. Defiantly not even every few hours.

What are the advantages of green, blue or black drives over the likes of the Samsung I had, Are they worth considering or would it be best to just go to the Enterprise class for safety & reliability?

Enterprise for max reliability

green etc for low power, but not great performance as it low speed etc, ok for data but warranty is no where near as good as Enterprise class.

GreenPower technology, these drives are designed to deliver power savings as the primary attribute. so no great speed, can be 5400

WD touted the following main points for red drives

Less aggressive head parking (no IntelliPark feature)
Configurable Time Limited Error Recovery (TLER), with a default of 7 seconds
IntelliPower disk rotation speeds (comparable to Green drives)
Vibration reduction mechanism in hardware

WD Red is the only hard drive designed for NAS systems, The drives are designed and extensively tested for compatibility in the unique 24x7 operating environment and demanding system requirements of home and small office NAS. copy pated this, yes it looks like these are better, tbh i'd still go for these or Enterprise as thats the next level
black being the standard ones for most drive types

Enterprise offers reliable storage for high capacity servers and storage arrays in a minimal footprint, plus a lot better warranty, made for long term use and every day 24/7 on and access etc

so first choice for me would be Enterprise
2nd go red,
third go green, then normal

Black are the high performance drives. They are all very reliable. Enterprise or Red seems like the best solution for a professional storage setup. Green or blue for lower cost one.
