Hi guys,

Looking to build a pc soon, and obviously don't want my HDDs bottlenecking everything, so I was thinking:

2x 250GB in Raid 0
1x 1TB for backup of raid, and 500GB storage.

Do you think this config will give me a decent speed, or should I go for something else? Bear in mind that I don't really want to pay too much for my HHDs, the above will come to around £200, which is really my max.

Thanks

Daven

Do you need RAID0? It only tends to be noticeably advantageous for reading/writing large files.
250GB drives are slower than others as well. If you want speed you need drives with 320-334GB platters such as the Samsung F1 320/640/1000GB or the Western Digital 640GB (there are also the WD Black Editions but their pricing is just stupid).

I'd get 2 1TB F1's personally. Lovely fast drives, if you really must have RAID then 2x320GB ones in place of a 1TB drive perhaps.

well never done the raid thing, but i allways have os on 1 drive games on another and general file stroage on 3rd. works like a dream, and saves a lot of hassle if you need to reinstall windows. i had to reinstall windows last weekend all my games worked with out reinstalling them it was great :d
