Hey looking to upgrade my drives as they are holding back my pc overall at the moment.

Spending around £100-£120. Ive looked at the SSD's in this price range and they seem pretty ok. However are there any other fast options? i currently have a raptor 74gig with the OS, Programs and Games on it, and another drive for storage.

The new drive will just replace the raptor with OS and Exe files etc, no storage stuff.

Is SSD the best option, or for example another raptor to RAID ? As im a bit of a noob when it comes to hard drives !

thanks for any help

SSD is in another performance league than any hard drive.

Intel X25-M
Kingston V+

Are silly quick, someone will post more alternatives in a moment.

Some SSD can actually be terrible, it depends which controller is used.

www.xbitlabs.com have a SSD round up recently posted.

If you are going to buy a 40gb Intel SSD it isnt worth it because the performance also goes down by almost half.

So maybe a 100gb Velociraptor for £99

A raptor has more space, can't think of anything else?

well the SSD will have win 7 install and a few programmes and games, the raptor i currently use will then be for little used programmes or bigger ones, and the storage drive for media etc, so im not sure but 40gig might be enough capacity for those uses ?

Also i have a CM Cosmos Pure case, which has mounting issues with SSD's so im guessing ill need to bubble wrap it to take up the extra space or something

Aswell as the xbitlabs reviews.

www.bit-tech.net have lots of SSD reviews.

Click on hardware, then storage, and have a look.

If the reviews are anything like the sister mag custom pc, then they might compare them to a raptor.
