Hey guys,

So I am looking into new xbox 360 headsets. I am quite a serious gamer and need an upgrade for my current headset Turtlebeach X4's.

I have looked into all sorts of reviews and have basically come up with the Astro A40 headset with the Mixamp, or the Sennheiser PC 360 headset with the Astro mixamp.

I cannot really see any headset that will beat these in terms of sounds quality for the price. But what do you guys think?

Cheers :)

I just changed from the Turtle Beach X11's to the Astro A40 & mixamp combo.

Obviosuly I cannot comment on the PC 360 headset vs the A40 headset for sound quality, but for £190 I'm very happy with what I bought, it's miles better than the Turtle Beach headset.

If you have the budget go for the PC360/Mixamp package, if you don't want to spend that much I'd imagine you will be very happy with the A40/Mixamp combo.

Kreeeee will be along to say he prefers the PC360 headset to the A40's and has tried both, but obviously you could personally do with trying both yourself if you can to make your own mind up.

Many thanks for the response. I see exactly where you are coming from, sounds pretty good.

Which mixamp did you go for? I presume the Pro (wired)?

Cheers :)

Yeah I bought the A40 audio system with the wired mixamp.

I bought this purely because IMHO I think wired gives better quality than wireless.

Yer I have been looking into it quite a bit, from what I have seen everybody says there is no difference.

The problem I have between the two (if I did go with the A40's) is that the wireless mixamp has the bass expander which apparently complements the A40s quite well. Then again to have the wireless mixamp working off of battery they say that their battery pack is better than rechargeable batteries, but yet they charge extra for it. Which I think is pretty ridiculous!

You can run the wireless directly off of the USB which seems quite pointless to me! But then again it is also the issue of cables for me as I play both at my desk and further away on the sofa!

I did have a PC350/Mixamp combo and found them very lacking and tinny sweaty uncomfortable. Can't say how good or bad the PC360's are though.

But I do own two pairs of astro A40's and also owned a pair of A30's. I highly recommend the A40's with the wireless mixamp.

I even managed to pickup a pair of brand new a40's on the bay for £61 not including a mixamp. So its a good idea to keep an eye on there if you want astro's.

I bought a battery off the bay for a bit less and it lasts for at least 5 hours or more. I say 5 as that's the longest I've let it go before charging. Think I read it can do about 17 hours.

The bass expander is very good and as you say compliments the A40's. However I have found it has slight popping sound on some extreme bass. I found out doing a google search that it is the bass expander causing it.

Hmm that's interesting to know, thanks!

I really think I am leaning towards the wired ones if I do go with the A40's. I would have to buy a longer USB cable and longer TOSlink cable though. Seems to be quite mixed with the wireless that's all.

Cheers

Is the bass expander worth the extra price? Do you have the rechargeable battery pack?

Cheers!

The bass boost, that's all down to personal preference. I'm not a fan of any kind of bass boost/expander and would take a clean neutral natural bass every time. It just sounds flabby/bloated

I use GP Recyko AAA batteries in my 5.8, 3 in, 3 on charge. Lasts a good 12-17hours, I've not timed it exactly and with my headphones I need the volume cranked way up. You can get 8 of them for less than £8.So absolutely not on the battery pack. Of course you have to factor in a charger if you don't have one.

Thanks for the response. I assume you went with the wireless for convenience then more? That sounds fine with the batteries, Astro obviously just say that so you buy theirs. I have 4 Energizer AAA's already which are 1000MAh. So it sounds like they would be fine?

I mean if thats the case then there would be no wires between Tx and Rx, but perhaps its not even worth the extra £15 for the wireless system? Especially if MoNkEyMiKeY has problems with the bass expander on his!

I like the sound that is produced without the bass boost, as always with sound everyone is different.

I have had both wired and the wireless amp a nd apart from bass boost I couldn't tell the difference. I was also using a giant USB cable and toslink and was too much hassle. I'd go for wireless personally and save on not having to buy any other cables. Check on it but I think you get a long USB cable with it.

Thanks for the response, I think the cables are 3M each. Which still isn't really long enough when I am on the sofa. But 98% of the time I am at my desk anyway so I guess it doesn't really matter.

It's really only the bass boost that makes a difference between the two. Otherwise I would just get wired. The wireless is £15 more anyway and the rechargeable pack/batteries would be £10-15 depending on which one.

Would you say its worth it for the bass boost? In your opinion?

Cheers :)

Mixamp with a decent headset like the PC360 or Beyrdaynamic MMX300, the Astro headsets themselves are nothing special imo.

The bass boost isn't worth the extra but the wireless is.

Doing the hoovering the other day I listened to spotify from my pc through the a40's in every room in my mid terrace house even still had signal when I emptied the hoover at the end of my garden.

I currently use the PC360 and they are outstanding, great depth of sound and positional sound without being biased to treble. The Beyr's is pure hearsay, but I'm yet to hear a bad report on them.

Haha I must admit that's pretty impressive, not sure if I will be using it away from my desk really though! Would you be able to give some more details on the batteries you bought? Just so I have more of an idea.

Thanks for the response. Have you tried the A40 headset?

Cheers everyone.
