best intel gaming processor?

The best chip is the i7, but if you want a more down to earth approach then a q9 chip or q6600 overclocked with some 4870/gtx260 or gtx285 or a 4870x2, then that will play all games on high.

Until games support the i7, let alone that, games are just starting to support quad core (gta4, farcry2), so i'd get a q6600 and overclock it.

If the op is thinking that more games will be made for multi-processors I hope he isn't holding his breath for it. As of now only 2% of all games will utilize more than two cores.

And y on earth be a member of an overclockers forum if you don't overclock? Isn't that un-ethical? <-- sorry couldn't resist. I can understand being scared of ****** something up out of own stupidity, but then if I was like that I would buy a system already oc'd or have knowledgable friend hook it up for me.

But seriously, You can even buy setups with dummy overclock abilities like my evga x58 has. You can go into the bios, enable "dummy oc" and it turns a i7 920 to 3.2GHZ and automatically adjusts all your settings. It's knewb-proof. at the flip of a switch get the power of the 965ee without having to know anything at all about overclocking.
