Buying a second hand iPhone and want to insure it. House and contents insurance no good as don't want to claim on that for anything except total disasters. Checked out Protect Your Bubble but customer reviews put me off.

I want cover for everything - loss, accidental damage, theft etc. Who would you guys recommend?

I use SquareTrade for my iPhone 4, they have got loads of great reviews in the US and it's exactly the same company (including the same call centres) however you can only buy the warranties from the large river store. I think mine was £40 for 3 Years inc accidental damage :)

I'm insured through bank account co-op moved partly for it. £13 a month but also get travel insurance, European breakdown cover and otherstuff. Stolen, loss, accidental damage, water damage.

However am interested for complete coverage for iPad.

Checked them out and they look like an excellent company. However, they don't seem to cover for loss/theft etc. so I will have to give them a miss.

Way more than I want to pay and I wouldn't need all those features. Would be interested to hear about other bank policies though.

An important point I must stress is that as the iPhone is second hand the invoice will not be in my name so that would need to be accounted for too.

Barclays offer free insurance with the £5 a month account, it covers iphones but alas forget the specifics of accidental and any fees you may incur.

Looking like I might indeed have to setup a Barclays account just for the bloomin' iPhone!

Seems to be the only way of insuring it by the IMEI number rather than invoice.

All of them insure via IMEI, but need an invoice for Proof of Purchase. It doesnt matter if the invoice isn't in your name as this would be the case for gifts....

I get free insurance with my lloyds bank too. Account costs us £25 a month though, but it's a joint account so it covers both our phones, as well as all the extras we get with the account like top aa cover, home emergency cover etc

Lloyds insure mine, £20 a month account with aa travel and all the other bits, I've flamed every year since the iPhone 1 and they have always repaired or replaced within a week! Fantastic service! They use lifestyle group limited

I too am with Lloyds but am not hugely impressed with their service, had to send my 3GS back 3 times due to them not fixing the fault properly then they deemed it 'beyond repair' and didn't give me enough money for a replacement iPhone handset. Also they've recently put the excess on iPhone claims up to £100

still says £30 in my terms and conditions

Handsets over £200: CUSC from £4.17/month

Specialist insurer CUSC insurance has been offering mobile insurance since 1989 and it has decent feedback. Its FoneGuard policy costs £54 a year (equiv. £4.50/month) or £4.99 on a month-by-month basis. This applies regardless of your handset's value, so it's worth comparing with TalkCover (see above) to see which wins.

It offers the highest level of fraudulent call cover, up to £250, yet on the downside its unattended theft cover only extends to handsets stolen with the use of force- if you lose your handset yourself and no force is involved you won't be covered. The excess is £25, or £50 if you're insuring a 3G handset.

Check out the 'findmyiphone' app, it has worked suprisingly well for me when I've left my phone at work...

That is a great app and one I'm going to be using for sure. My concern is more leaving it on the bus/in a pub and so forth and the finder deciding not to give it back.

Oh I see, yes I guess you wouldn't be covered in this case as it wasn't taken by force...

I'm sure I've seen someone offering iPhone insurance for around £5, I'll have to look thru my bookmarks and see if I've got it saved. :)
