Best ISP for gaming?

Virgin at my brothers is throttled for P2P aswell, he get's like 2gb allowance, then it drops to 30kbp/s max. And his upload is tiny!

I'm on Sky unlimited and I love them

Yea I've used some random port but can never get any speed for some reason. I'm paying for Rapidshare because of it. It's the 20Mb package though so you probably don't get it on the highest one.

Never had a problem on the 20mb package and even prior to that, I've been with VM for years (Since they started broadband) and was a heavy torrent user at one point. You might want to look into usenet rather than using Rapidshare though.

I'd also agree with Streeteh on using opendns instead of the ISP name servers.

NOT O2 or BE!

But if you are lucky enough to have an O2/BE LLU exchange you'll be alright. I have had this at peak times for the past 6 months. Unusable....

Ouch, do you live around 10 miles from the exchange with the copper wire changing directions every 36 feet while being lined with pigeons?

Nope, 1 mile away.

It's O2 not buying enough allocation from BT. Never had this issue from BT.

During the daytime i get sub 20ms latency and 8MB speeds. All access customers are being fed the same BS, it'll be sorted next month etc... It's only getting worse as the summer holidays approach.

BE or should i say o2 have been great for me!

doesnt ever seem to fluctuate from that... for just over 7 quid its a bargain i think :D

Yep, 20mbit here too, and torrents work fine for me too.

Astraweb are doing a deal until the end of this week, iirc, where you get unlimited newsgroup access for a year for $96 which is roughly £60 - and they promise to not increase the price as long as remain a customer.

But remember, kids, only download stuff you're entitled to download... nothing naughty, mmmkay?

avoiding VM's traffic management (caps) and getting full 20/50mb all the time is easy.. upload speed isnt great thou, althou its 1.5mb on the 50mb service i think..

We've got quite slow lines round here.

Solid connection though, and it never drops below that. More than enough for gaming. :)

Confused a little though... apparently I'm ~ 100 miles from the Maidenhead server, despite living there.

never had a real problem with virgin, other than national/regional outtages and they have been few and far between. 50Mb customers have a uk based customer support line too ;)

Hearing a lot of good things about BE and am a very happy man.

Just need to wait to the end of the week and I will be getting around 16meg+ connection nom nom.

Voila, out of peak times and i get this or better!

Also, you live in London dude! Haha! I'm out in the sticks in Cornwall, we are lucky to have electricity!

P.S. orderoftheflame, if you don't have a static I.P, the location of your I.P address won't be where you live. My I.P is currently fixed somewhere in wales. But if i reboot my router it can change to Norfolk, Scotland etc...
