Best ISP for gaming?

what about a non-llu isp for gaming, any suggestions?

In principle (seeing as all DSL based ISPs that aren't LLU just use BT equipment/pipes) should be fairly similar I would have thought? As long as they don't throttle or cap, I can't think of anything specific any of them provide that would make xbox live/PSN/Wii etc "better". (I know some ISPs are better for PC gaming, but that normally involves hosted servers and/or short pings/routes to popular gaming servers/services).

well for whatever reason i cant access bf1943 between the hours of 3pm and 1am so if someone who had a non llu isp that could play it whenever they wanted would be an improvement

Who are you with? I see random mentions of people having problems on the AOL network/platform, but am not sure of the details (if there are any and it is more than a few people's isolated complaints).

Dunno why it's slower. Currently got a newsgroup download running at 1.2mb/s

Speedtest websites are only as reliable as the bandwidth available on that site.

Download a large file (Nvidia Driver for example) to see how fast your connection is.

Been with NTL/Virgin since 1999 / 56k days and never had a problem gaming. Currently on 20MB and will be getting 50MB when I move next month :)

A good way to test your speed:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&displayLang=en

This link should max out your connection (download 2 at once if you need). I get a steady 1.72mb a second. 1.72 X 8 = 13.76 Mbit

Speedtest shows:

So it is about right, in terms of download speed.

Edit: Those with O2 and Be should get there SNR profiles modified and Fastpath enabled to see if it helps with their connections. Should increase your download speed a bit and also reduce your pings.

I've been with Be for a couple of years now, and they've been absolutely superb. I know many others will agree! It's a quick connection, no limits and no throttling.

Same, I have their 24 meg unlimited package... No problems what so ever, apart from they now have an indian call center so can become frustrating when trying to get support :(

They have moved? It was always Eastern Europe someplace, hell even the people on IRC and the forums have Eastern European names. Are you confusing Europe and India? (I have not actually called the support for months so it could be the phone people are in India now?).

I'm on Sky's LLU service and have been for 3 or so years. 1.6mb a second all the time :D Ping is a little high but if your line gets managed or if you phone up they can lower that easily for you. Soon to be 20mb I hope :D

If you can't get Be / O2.. I'd recommend UKOnline; They're an easynet / Sky reseller but without usage caps.

I'm on the lowest tariff because my line is teh suckz but I've never had problems with gaming or excessive downloads.
