Best kitchen?

Have you actually owned an ikea kitchen?
Yes, I had it in a flat when I lived in London.
The handles literally came off in my hand. It was IKEA by Whirlpool iirc.

I'm sure that one was just **** because it was half paid for by the council, but you cannot compare IKEA to Miele.

It all depends how much you are willing to spend

A good quality mid sized kitchen will cost around 20 to 30k from siematic or poggenpohl which in my opinion are the best two on the market.

Hacker is also very good and around half the price, boffi also make good kitchens but I find they are a little too expensive for what they are and I would rather buy a siematic.

appliances
Fridge/freezer/wine cooler - Zub Zero are probably the best on the market, followed by viking and Miele (master cool range)
Ovens/hobs/coffee machine - Miele or gaggenau
Extractor hood - miele, guttmann (blanco in the uk)
worktops: silestone - man made stone, probably the most practical of all worktops and still looks good.
Sink - franki, blanco, smeg.....
Boiling water tap - Zip
Normal tap - there are many many good manufacturers I like dornbracht, blanco, inbox, gessi and many others make good taps.

IME, Wickes stuff is worse quality than B&Q. They have similar fittings and brassware etc, but there are obvious discrepancies when examined. A lot of the stuff is made in the same factory, but you tend to get slightly nicer designs from B&Q. However, B&Q fitting leaves MUCH to be desired IME (and Wickes is meant to be pants too).

Just avoid Homebase like the plague, and you should be fine.

My Grandparents owned the house my parents now live in and in the early 70's spent a third of the value of the house on a Poggenpohl kitchen. These were the cabinet doors, black painted solid oak with brushed aluminium trim and handles and still looked the part after all this time. It was pretty ahead of it's time... integrated NEFF appliances, under cabinet lighting etc, all long before these things were the norm.

It was still in fantastic shape and used until 35 years later.

My parent's stupidly replaced it with a middle of the road mass produced kitchen a couple of years ago. In my mind it already looks more dated than the 40 year old kitchen it replaced (even though it has a few more modern features. A bit like replacing an old Bentley with a brand new full spec'd Honda Civic). They'd have been better just having the doors repainted to freshen them up.

If ever I want a top notch kitchen fitting that'll be where I go looking.
